Hey yall! Am I the only one who abhors olive oil? I think it must be genetic, my Mom thinks it tastes rancid, too! I have ordered some extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil - the stuff seems very therapeutic! What do yall eat the coconut oil with? I also have some walnut oil - pure pressed, it says - is this OK? Any other ideas for other oils that are OK and good ways to eat them? Right now I am only on day 4 of the diet, by the way. Thanks everyone!

Hey Karen! I have had trouble with olive oil, too. I finally found a brand that was great, I could actually down it from the bottle (sounds gross, but I found out a lot of us who have been on the diet a while do this!). But the next time I bought the same oil, it didn't taste as good. I recently got a GALLON of that virgin coconut oil, I love it. I put it in my fruit shakes, with or without the egg and I make a dressing by just adding fresh citrus juice (orange, lemon or lime) to use with sweet fruits. I even tried the dressing on the salad, it's great. And, yes, I'm lazy, sometimes I just eat it with a spoon.

I wonder if avocado oil is OK?

I am sure cold pressed avocado is ok. I have also found cold pressed grape seed oil which I can actually down straight from the bottle. I suppose as long as its cold pressed and/or virgin, and its from a fruit, then it's ok to consume.

good luck

Veronia, can I come live at your house? You are so creative with the oils!! It's dullsville here! Yes, I did try the coconut oil in my shake. It was okay but not as good as without the oil. I will do it again. Do you put the oil in some warm water to get it UNsolidified? I have been using it in the solidified condition. Both on my skin and in my shake etc. Does it make a difference?

Goracergo, I have never seen or heard of avocado oil! What percent of it is pure oil? Like o.o. is 100%.

Hee hee, Del, I wish I had a house. You must have heard about real estate out here? I own a tiny condo, you know the kind, where the kitchen, living room and dining room are all one room? They call it "open concept" but it means there isn't enough space for walls!

I don't bother to melt the coconut oil for the shakes, but I think it matters for the skin. I transferred some to a glass dropper bottle and I hold it under hot water for a minute to melt it. That way I can be sure to only put one drop on my face after I've sprayed it with water. If I put too much on, it doesn't absorb and looks greasy, could make me break out.

I like Racer's idea of avocado oil. I'm sure I would like that since I love avocados. Hey, that's cool you learned to eat them, Del. A lot of people have trouble learning to like them if they haven't grown up eating them.

I don't need much room.

Okay, now that's interesting that it makes a difference to put it on your skin in oil form! My skin has been dry but its changing to normal. I cannot believe the change it has made in my skin! The bottoms of my feet are as soft as a baby's behind. (Well, almost) I have been putting some of the solid oil in the palm of my hand with a little water, them rub my hands together until it's mixed, then blot my hands all over my face and neck. I am getting more than a drop but I thought I might need it because I was so dry. Has been good so far, but I will stop and do your way if you think it matters. BTW, are you making or buying avocado oil? I never heard of it.

You know, Del, you are so tiny, I think you just might be comfortable sleeping on my loveseat!

If you aren't having problems by now with the coconut oil the way you are doing it, I'm sure it's fine. I just liquify it so I can measure exactly one drop - we people with acne are a little paranoid about clogging our pores

I'll buy the avocado oil - none of the avocados in my house escape swift consumption!

Hey yall thanks for all the great ideas! Veronica, are you no longer using the monoi oil for your skin? Do you find the coconut oil works better? I ordered the gallon container, too -- I'm counting the days till that and my brazil nuts come. I can't wait for the nuts especially. I keep having to guzzle oil at work before I eat my fruit! That's something I like to do in the privacy of my own home, where I can give myself a little peptalk before I take my "medicine" !

I'm packing my bags! V, you are one in million! I don't know when you have time to help us all like this, but please don't ever go away!!

"Taking" my medicine is getting better, Karen! How y'all doing down there in No. Carolina! I'm a southern girl too! born and raised in Mississippi!

I think this is my 3rd day to put the oil in my shake and to add it to o.j. besides putting on my salad and it was better today. But(heres a switch) I like the o.o. better than the coconut oil! Go figure!

Sorry for the confusion, Karen , I think I am starting to refer to them both as coconut oil. Anyway, I did try the virgin coconut oil on my skin for a couple of weeks because Goracergo asked me to. I really can't tell the difference! So now I'm back to the monoi oil until it's used up, then I'll just use the virgin coconut oil on my skin - I figure one less thing to order.

That's funny you like the o.o. better now, Del It sounds like your tummy is settling down some?

Hey Del, nice to meet ya, and happy to have a fellow southerner here! I wish I liked the olive oil as much as you do. Still coconut oil-less and nutless. How long does it take to send a few measly nuts!?

Veronica, glad to hear the coconut oil works so well for you!

Karen, I ordered all my nuts from nutsonline and received them in record time (like a few days) The first few times I ordered it was in small amounts and I messed up and stored them in the freezer. I was going by the old rules without asking. Morale of the story: ask all questions! Anyway the first shipments were more than half bad. My last order from them was a 6 months supply and I might find 1 nut bad out of 10. There is such a difference in the nuts when they are fresh! The reason I ordered from them is because they were the only supplier that would assure me the nuts had never been in the fridge! They don't have the macadamia nuts in shell though, so I still have to find them and order. I will probally order from sunorganics, where V and others order.

Have you tried many different oils, Karen? They are all much different in taste.

V, I read (somewhere else) where Wai said that the red onions could cause tummy upset so I am taking them out! What else on the sample diet can cause tummy upset? Maybe I should do a sample diet with regards to only things known to not cause tummy upset and then do like you guys do. Add in an item at a time to see if I can have it with no problem!

V, also did you ever try the walnut oil on your face? I cannot find it in the stores. also I cannot find avocado oil. Am I going to have to order online?

Well, Del, I thought my stomach was pretty sensitive to things, but it looks like you need to be extra careful. Your idea of trying the basic sample diet, then adding things back in a little at a time, is a good one. I'm sure the red onions would bother me, too, but I only put a tiny bit, like one teaspoon chopped, into my salad, just for flavor. The other foods on the sample diet that I have to be careful with are things that could be sour, like tomatoes - they have to be really ripe and sweet for me. I have the best luck with the little ones, like cherry tomatoes. Also oranges, I don't eat sour ones.

It's too bad you can't find avocado oil locally, Del. That's one good thing about living in CA, lot's of health nuts here (among the other nuts ). You could try Whole Foods. Spectrum Naturals seems to have a wide variety of cold-pressed oils at pretty reasonable prices. I like Whole Foods brands of organic oils, too, but since their site seems to be down at the moment, I can't check to see if they make avocado oil.

I have never tried any oil on my face besides coconut. Until Wai got me clear and my oil production dropped to normal, I was too scared to try any oil on my face.

Thanks for the help. I only use about the same amount as you of red onions and for the same reason..just for a little taste. I never suspected tomatoes! I do always eat them very ripe. They are in season and so good. I don't get the cherry ones because it's easier to peel the larger ones! I wish I lived in Calif and didn't have to worry about pesticides! It must be nice! I will look at tomatoes with a differect hat on and see if it helps. The oranges here are awful (quite sour). I do an order of oranges from Calif quite often. I don't think the sour oranges bother me because I squeeze at least 6 or 7 for me in the morning. I drink a glass plain with my banana then I make a fruit drink to put in the egg yolks and oil and my stomach is okay. It starts after the fruit and nuts in the afternoon. By the time I have some munch food or more fruit and salad it starts feeling like it's hardening up with a constant feel of that. Not really pain just uncomfortable. Just want to find what's right for me on the diet, like everyone else!

Thanks for the link to Whole Foods. I will look there for the Avocado oil!

I ask about the walnut oil because I think I read where Wai says it is more nourishing than coconut oil? I am curious to use it and see the difference. Also I was wondering if anyone else has used both and can say what they thought!

Thanks again for your take on what may cause tummy upset!

Ok, Del, I know exactly what you are talking about with that "hard" feeling, it's like your digestion just freezes and everything stops moving? Especially with munch foods? You should probably start a thread for it in The Kitchen to ask Wai about it and I'll join you there.

the avocado oil is 100 percent, and you should be able to find it at a health food store.
