| banned 06-14-2003 12:02 PM | I get too exhausted to finish my workouts now, this is getting pretty bad. I eat alot of fruit before, but it burns out quickly and I need more, I can't really eat during the workout. Could a removal of complex carbohydrates be whats keeping me down? Every trainer/coach/dietitian has said you need them for extended lifts. You are the only person who's ever said otherwise. Are complex carbs alright if they don't have salt, spices, or protein? |

This is why it has been strongly recommended over and over again to drink fresh squeezed O.J. with both sugar and olive oil added. Have you included this in your diet? Read this , it may help. quote:I'm sorry, I can't answer this. Maybe another board member ![]() |

According to such pundits, starch is a complex carbohydrate despite the fact it is converted into glucose almost instantaneously. Try getting some "natural" (non-styrofoam) packing peanuts, you will find they are pure starch. Put it in your mouth, it will be dissolved almost instantly. There are enzymes in your saliva to break down starch! Thus, there really is no long term energy gain to eating such carbohydrates over pure sugar. It all becomes glucose rather quickly. |

You can not fuel up the muscles with starch or fruits in one meal before the workout. Well it may do some good if not eaten to close to the workout, but glycogene stores in the muscles takes some time to load up. One thing is true, you do NOT need complex carbs for "athlete activities". /Peter |
