| SB 03-18-2003 12:04 PM | Hi Wai, I am doing your diet since January and I feel great! but now I am planning on getting pregnant and I wonder if it is okay for me to stay on your diet. (I am worried about the raw animal foods in particular...) Also I would like to know if I need to make other adjustments (like extra vitamins or something). I really would like to continue this way of eating, but i just want to make sure it is safe... Thanks SB |
| Wai 03-20-2003 11:14 AM | quote:Actually, it is far safer than a standard diet, because it builds up the defense system of your unborn child from the very start, step by step. Your child will have an optimally devolped immune system. Keep in mind that it is those with a weakened defense system that fall victim; those that are not exposed to fresh raw animal food on a regular basis. A raw natural foods diet is the best start in life. I hope you are planning to breastfeed your child extensively? (over 1.5 years) quote:absolutely NO extra vitamins. Taking extra vitamins trains the childs body to absorb as little of these, which may trigger a deficiency after birth. The adjustments you should make, is cutting away foods from your diet that are a bit harder to digest. Only eat the best ripened fruits, the easiest to digest nuts, and increase the intake of fresh raw animal food. quote:it absolutely is |
| SB 03-20-2003 12:31 PM | Thank you, I am so happy I can continue this way of eating! I am not sure though which foods are hard to digest... I eat all the basic foods that you suggest, except for brazil nuts (I eat walnuts mostly and some hazelnuts and pecans, about 35 grams a day). Is that okay? Also I eat one munch food item a day (7,5 grams of dirty protein), like potatoes or pasta and sometimes sushi. Are those foods hard to digest? And what about dried fruit? hard to digest or not? I think I will try to start cutting out all munch food soon, but I do think I need more than one avocado a day to satisfy my cravings, would that be okay? (Sorry, more questions!) |
| Wai 03-20-2003 12:59 PM | quote:they are not as easy to digest as Brazil nuts and macadamia nuts... quote:no they are not. doesn't the pasta cause constipation in you? quote:harder to digest than non-dried fruits; they can make people gassy Do they make you gassy? quote:ABSOLUTELY! the more, the better and you should also really indulge on egg yolks (and sushi; the best mucnh food) quote:don't be, it is essential to give your child the best start possible... |
| SB 03-20-2003 01:17 PM | Hi Wai, I guess the pasta does give me a little constipation, I do eat it with a lot of oil though. I eat the dried fruit because it kills my hunger very well (make me feel 'full'). I cannot find unshelled brazil nuts, do you have an adress for me in the Netherlands where i can get them? I called some people but they say they don't have them this year and I have to wait till october... Thanks again! |
| Wai 03-21-2003 01:56 PM | quote:exactly my experience! i did find someone who had some Brazil nuts, but it were his last, and they weren't fresh! (at least 2 years old, but i bought them though; for 75% they're still okay) But you CAN buy them from the internet... Can you please keep us all updated regarding your future pregnancy??? |
| SB 03-23-2003 02:38 AM | Hi Wai, Ofcourse I will keep you updated, it may take a while though, because we first want to do some traveling. I just wanted to make sure my diet it safe also the months before pregnancy, so I will be in perfect health when we decide to have a baby. Thanks for answering my questions so quickly and I will check out if it is possible to order unshelled brazilnuts from the States. ![]() |
| marion 04-18-2003 03:52 PM | Dear Wai, I have been following your diet for about 6 months for general health reasons(although not with 100% discipline). I have mainly eaten raw salmon instead of raw egg yolks as I like salmon very much, and raw egg yolks seem so ...terribly raw.... Now I'm pregnant (6 weeks) and my GP and every literature I read on pregnancy tells that raw fish and egg yolks are about the worst things a pregnant woman can eat. The reason is the high risk of salmonella which is very dangerous if one is pregnant and can hurt the unborn baby. I have also since 5 days been somewhat "morning sick" (although I have been feeling a bit sick all day), not serious i.e. not vomiting but still I feel a bit sick when thinking of food. The strange thing is that it has been more difficult to keep your diet as all fatty food, like avocado, raw salmon, nuts and olive oil make me a bit sick just at the though of eating it. I have actually craved less sweet things and more neutral cooked food like rice and potato and rye bread. I would be very pleased if you could advise me on a suitable diet while pregnant. I am afraid of eating anything raw right now! And also if you have any tips concerning morning or pregnancy sickness. Thank you in advance, |

| Wai 04-18-2003 04:06 PM | quote:salmonella is a bacteria our body can perfectly cope with bacteria, unless it is not trained to do so (elderly being fed sterile foods in elderly homes, or children that have never been exposed to raw foods) your child's defense system is highly influenced by your defense system; if your defense system is continously trained properly, your child's defense system will develop accordingly but if you, from the beginning of your pregnancy, don't expose yourself to small amounts of salmonella, your fetus' defense system will remain equally untrained. And if you then expose it to high levels of salmonella, it might be very harmful So, the answer does not lay in preventing the exposure to salmonella (decades ago, many people seriously though that we would be better of when not exposed to any bacteria, until we realized that such humans would gradually degrade into extremely volnerable beings that could be killed by (now) completely hamrless bacteria (and viruses)), but in training our defense system properly vaccinations are based on this very principal; your defense system is stimulated by a low dosage exposure So, my advice is to consume (intially low amounts) fresh raw animal food on a very regular basis, from the very beginning quote:this very diet... quote:Isis is right, i'm not a mother, and don't know anything about morning / pregnancy sickness |
