| Wai 01-02-2003 02:32 PM | In your body there is a balance of oxidants and anti-oxidants. It is not that oxidants are bad and anti-oxidants are good. Oxidants, for example, are required for all process in your body. Without oxidants, you can utilize food. But, in our current society we absorb many external oxidants, from cooked foods, unnatural foods, polluted air and cigarette smoke for example. Forcing our body to take up more anti-oxidants is not a good idea, because anti-oxidants can be very harmful as well (please check out http://www.3.waisays.com ) so, what to do? Minimizing the intake of external oxidants of course, and offering (not FORCING) your body the antioxidants it needs. Your body can ingest all the antioxidants from fruits that it needs. If it needs more, it just increases the absorption rate. Unfortunately, plants and herbs can contain very potent anti-oxidants. Which can have toxic effects. They may be very effective in eliminating specific bad substances, they can also easily damage healthy cells or nutrients... There are many flavonoids with potential harmful properties. Please check out: http://www.13.waisays.com/plants.htm Actually, because of the potent substances they contain, herbs and plants are not food, but drugs (drugs are based on the potency of plant ingredients). And just as you should not take drugs 'to prevent disease', you should not ingest plants / herbs to prevent disease. Specific plant / herb ingredients CAN be used to fight specific disease, but for this you need a herb specialist, who knows about your disease, and how to target it with which a specific plant ingredient. |
