I'm 21 and the gums above 2 of my teeth have been noticeably receding. I was following an all raw fruit and vegetable diet for about 6 months up until 1 month ago, and I think that the lack of nutrients from animal food or sufficient nuts was the problem. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or know if the recession can be reversed

I noticed the same a couiple of weeks ago, but my dentist calmed me and told me it was a health sign. Before I had slightly inflammed gum, and now its more white instead of red, and I think the receding stopped.

Been raw 50-90% a year and almost totally for 6 weeks or so.

My teeth are also whiter now.

I stopped using toothpaste a week ago or more.
Really no need to use that. I floss several times/day and brush lightly a couple of times/day with a soft brush. Sometimes I "polish" my teeth with a cotton rag/towell/shirt, very lightly, makes the front surfaces very clean and smooth.

if we follow this diet...and no munch food is consumed, do we need to use toothpaste?
Is light brushing (with water) and flossing sufficient?

Is fluoride good for teeth or bad for teeth? I´m a bit confused about this...and I went to a dental hygienist a while ago and she cleaned my teeth really thoroughly and then put some really strong fluoride paste on my teeth (it tasted awful, really strong, like poison)and told me that it would do lots of good to my teeth, she let the stuff "do it's job" for like 10 minutes and then removed it....good or bad?

I'm asking because I want to know if I should go there to have my teeth treated again in the future or not.

And if toothpaste is good, what kind of toothpaste?

bad (the fluoride added to toothpaste, that is)

it actually IS poison in such concentrates...

non-fluoride enriched toothpaste is at least less bad (dunno whether toothpaste is good or bad)

I use "natural" toothpastes that do not contain extra floride, or synthetic ingredients. I really like the ones from India. The taste takes a little getting used to. I recently tried a new brand which actually contains a concentrate from milk. The producer claims that this balances the PH and the bacteria in your mouth...something like that. I actually don't like the idea of using something with a milk concentrate. I thought dairy was bad for you all the way around...

fluoride has potentially toxic properties
yes, it is essential in small amounts, but, like other essential nutrients (selenium, zinc, iron) has potentially toxic properties

the message: too much is harmful
