Is distilled water as good as volvic?
Oh, and i think you may have missed my question on mineral water (or maybe i missed your answer!)
Is Gerilsteiner mineral water out of the question?
(30 mg sodium/serving). I have been told by SO many people that it is the BEST water and the ONLY water i should drink for health/weight loss, etc.

Please check out this post: link

I thought that you had answered yourself already? That you read info about low-mineral waters?
Since the Gerilsteiner is a mineral water, it must contain way too much minerals.
What are the sodium, potassium, chloride and calcium contents of it per 1 Liter? (= 1.06 liq quart = 1,000 ml)

A "serving"? If that is something like a glass of water, then it contains too much sodium.

Yeah, just as they think that sugar and fat are bad, and that working out helps you to lose weight, people think that minerals are good per se, which is not the case, at all.

yes, you are right, i did answer that question myself about mineral water.
What if the water is labled 'purified', but has no nutritional info? Is there a legal standard for 'purified water'? Most purified waters SAY that they can be used for all distilled purposes.
What about Arrowhead, Dasani, Crystal Gyser, Aquafina, Niagra, etc. Any thing i should look for on the label other then low sodium/mineral content? What do you consider to be "low"?

Minerals are not seen as 'non-pure'. Purifying does not mean: "lowering mineral levels", so that doesn't help!
You need to know its mineral contents.

1 cup is about 238 ml. 1 L is 1,000 ml.
Montcalm is a low-mineral water; its contents are:

Na: 1.5 mg / L (sodium = natrium)
Cl: 0.6 mg / L (chloride)
K: 0.4 mg / L (potassium = kalium)
Ca: 3 mg / L (calcium)
Mg: 0.6 mg / L (magnesium)
bicarbonates: 5 mg / L
sulphates: 7 mg / L

So, what are the mineral contents of those waters?

"Low sodium" does not mean a thing. what is considere low sodium by some, may still be too high. You need to know the exact data.

Does it make any difference if the water is sparkling / not, as long as it is low mineral?

and what about Crystal Geyser water? It has lower mineral contents than volvic (and is less expensive!) Am I correct?

In general, sparkling waters have had more added than just the 'sparkles'.
So, no, no sparkling water.

Thanks Wai, one more thing on this topic - how much does the kind of water you consume affect acne / cellulite?
Wai

that is impossible to predict, because that will differ per person. Some are more susceptible to protein, others to fluctuating blood sugar levels.
You can only find out by first clearing your skin, and start drinking other water.

what are it's mineral contents exactly?
(go to the shop, write down the contents, and then report them here)

IGNORE WHAT I SAID ABOUT CRYSTAL GEYSER!! [Embarrassed]
I had a hard time finding the mineral contents on the actual bottle (went to 3 markets today!), so i called 1800-4-geyser and received the following info:
Ca 16.5 mg/L
Mg 3.4
K 2.8
Cloride 2.3
Total dissolved solids 140 mg/L

[Eek!] Much, Much too high in minerals!

Please do explain the negative effects of drinking water such as this? How does it affect acne, weight loss, health, etc?

It greatly affect acne, because acne is caused by the combination of retaining too much water (which causes the pinching off of sebum canals) and producing much sebum. And the minerals have water-attracting properties.

High mineral waters can affect weightloss because salts influence your appetite; salts have appetite stimulating properties.

Retaining too much water in the skin accelerates the aging of your skin because the water-attracting substances are contained in the true skin, attracting water from the outer skin, causing dehydration of the outer skin, thus accelerating the turn over of skin cells.
