| Author | Topic: get rid of chunky thigh- and leg-muscles! (and bodyfat) |
| she 04-23-2003 05:02 AM | Hi Wai, I have been trying to lose weight for the past month and started to work out (thinking gaining more muscles will help me lose fat). However it produced an undesirable result for me. Now my legs have become more bulky, and plus the additional exercise I've been doing, I ate more and "gained" weight. After reading your book, I understand walking and doing light exercise is the right way to lose fat. So my first question is: Will walking make me gain or sustain the muscles I have already gained? My legs were originally slim and now they look chunky. Secondly, do I need to lose some of these muscles? so I won't look bulky anymore? Lastly, I read about the breakdown of protein can cause acne. I have started this diet hoping to get rid of some pimples as well. But I have noticed I've broken out a little more. Is this due to breakdown of my muscles since I have not been working out anymore? I'm still having troubles losing as I don't know the best time to eat and whether my muscles-glycogen are empty or it's just my glycogen depots. Your advise would be helpful for me... many thanks! ![]() |
| Wai 04-25-2003 08:12 AM | hi She, welcome to the board!quote:this is exactly what i'm referring at in this thread: link quote:Yes, it is these muscles that made your legs look chunky; before increasing the size of those muscles, your legs were slim... so, yes, you need to lose that extra muscle weight to have those slim legs again. The good ting is that once muscles are not exercised anymore, they will be gradually converted in available energy. And, if it took specific exercise to build these muscles, it is this kind of exercise that is needed to keep them in that same shape. Intensive exercise has muscle-building stimulance, extensive exercise does not. Walking is not a muscle-building activity; you will be using the same muscles as everybody does, and not more intensively, just more extensively... Walking does not make your legs chunky, so, yes, not doing those previous exercises anymore, and walking instead, will make your legs slim again. quote:it might be (depending on lots of other factors as well), but if that is the case, it will only be temporarily (possibly till your thighs have returned to a normal size) quote:i guess you mean losing body-fat, right? regarding losing body fat, it is most essential to not eat large meals anymore. You should consume some energy whenever your blood energy level goes down a bit Regarding eating small portions, you cannot go wrong, it is just when you want to indulge on mucnh foods that you should carefully pick the right moment (when your glycogen depots are empty); right after having taking a long walk, for example quote:i guess you mean muscle-glycogen versus liver-glycogen, right? it is best that all glycogen depots are as empty as possible, because that way all the calories from your munch food will go into directly needed energy (including glycogen) instead of being stored as bodyfat. |
