| tasya 12-18-2002 05:56 PM | Can the set-point weight be permanently reset at a higher level due to repeated dieting? I have a particular problem with the waistline - I have a potbelly. Should I keep with this diet until I reach a plateau and accept that as my set-point weight even if I have this unsightly fat around my waist? Or is it possible to lose all unwanted fat even from places that the body does not like to lose it from and hangs onto? When should I just give up ? I am 37 years old, 5 feet tall, I weigh 56 kilos, my measurements are 97cm chest, waist 81cm, hips 91cm. I have always had this fat stomach since I was a kid and have an androgen-like distribution of fat. I have had a problem with very light periods for the past 7 years and this is why I have been trying out different diets as I read somewhere that the light periods were due to being overweight (I gained alot of weight - from 50 kilos to 58 kilos when I developed this problem). I will post more about this menstruation problem in another thread (under General Issues). An aside, I have noticed that cats can get very obese when fed cooked foods. Like humans they can overeat because of the opioids and other addictive substances found in prepared foods. |

So, when it appears that in sombody non of the psychological reasons is there, 'it must be the set point weight'. Unfortunately, there always is another cause: appetite stimulating drugs in our daily food (opioid peptides and beta-carbolines). Knowing this, the definition of your set point weight is: the weight that you naturally would weigh if you would still be living in a natural habitat; being perfectly able to run away and climb in trees properly (to hide from danger). This weight differs per person, but it definitely excludes obesity. quote:A potbelly is generally not fat, but filled intestines or a swollen belly due to gasses. Do you eat lots of whole fruits? If yes, try consuming more pressed juices, or juices from the juice extractor (not from the blender) quote:If you want to lose more bodyfat, you need to lower the intake of cooked foods (munch foods). For some, it is enough to reach their natural set point weight on the '15 gram dirty protein daily' level, but for some, you need to be more strict. Some can only reach their set-point weight on the 100% strict (sample) diet. quote:Absolutely. quote:You have still enough overweight to lose. You will ALL lose it on my diet, if only you adapt your regimen to the level required. If you naturally are prone to hold relatively much bodyfat, you need a more strict regimen. (NOT meaning that you need to eat less fat / sugars) quote:Yes, these appetite enhancers are also active in cats and dogs, very obviously. ![]() |
| tasya 12-19-2002 09:21 PM | Thank you Wai for your answer. I have been getting some good results with the diet so far. I have not been following it strictly until 10 days ago. Despite this I have lost 5 kilos (from 61 kilos to 56 kilos) over three months. Since I have been following this diet properly my constipation problem has gone and my skin is really glowing and clear ( I do not get pimples now even on my oily days). Also my shape is subtly changing and becoming more feminine (I think my hormones are coming back to normal as a result of including clean cholesterol in my diet). I also feel healthier. I am happy with the progress. If I hit a plateau and still have overweight to lose I will cut out all munch foods. Thank you Wai for coming up with this diet. I think you should win the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Noone has synthesized all the information out there, all the research and painstakingly pieced it together into a coherent whole like you have. I think you are an extraordinary individual to do all this work, look up all these scientific journals and read these reports and come up with groundbreaking theories about osteoporosis and other health issues that the top scientists and doctors have not been able to come up with. Your achievements are tremendous and really astounding. You are amazing and obviously gifted. |
