Just like cocaine, cafeine (which is contained in coffee) is a stimulant which makes you feel more active. So, by taking this stimulant constantly, you can fool your own feelings of hunger (lower blood energy levels make you feel tired; which are counteracted by stimulants), but that way you are only impairing the only system that can help you reach and maintain your natural set-point weight.
So, yes, the short term effects of stimulants can be beneficial to lose weight, but the eventual effects will be detrimental.
So, I certainly would not recommend to take in large doses of cafeine.

no. the increase in metabolism is only in-direct, by making you more active (which requires more energy).
