| kathy 08-15-2002 08:33 PM | Hello Everyone, I have a question regarding how weight loss is acheived on this diet. Although I realize that the diet consists mainly of the "right" foods, versus munch foods, they are still calorically dense "right" foods (nuts, oil, avocados). It does not seem feasible to consume so many calories and still lose weight. If anyone could give me some feedback I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I would love to hear some personal testimonials regarding weight loss (how long it took, when to expect results, etc.). Thanks very much for your input. |
| Wai 08-16-2002 12:01 PM | quote:When you consume more energy than required, you will gain weight. Gaining weight is not even so much about consuming way too much, but about consuming a tiny little bit too much on a daily basis. By nature, our appetite stops when we have consumed sufficient energy, given that enough food is available at all times. This appetite of ours is biologically controlled by various hormones and neurotransmitters; they control when and how much you want to eat, and when you have consumed enough. Nowadays, however, we eat lots of foods that contain 'appetite enhancers', which make you consume more energy than required, and we therefore easily grow fat. These appetite enhancers (opioid peptides and beta-carbolines) are respectively contained in dairy (cheese, milk, yogurt etc) and wheat products (bread, pasta, pizza, cookies etc.) and in cooked foods. Extra appetite enhancers (they refer to them as 'taste enhancers') are added to most food products. The problem of these substances is that they impair the system that control your appetite; they impair the metabolism of those hormones and neurotransmitters that make you consume the right amount of energy. On this diet, weightloss is achieved by consuming very little food that contains appetite enhancers, so that the system that naturally controls your weight, is in control again. On this diet, you don't need to worry about not eating too much, because you simply have no appetite for eating more. Actually, it is quite hard to eat enough on this diet; you really need to make an effort to do so. The succes of this diet regarding losing overweight, is that you can eat as much fruits, raw nuts and fresh raw animal food as you want. Your body simply refuses to eat more than it needs. The system that naturally controls your weight, will automatically make you weigh your natural set point weight again. Just try it, and you will know what I mean. quote:It does not matter what foods you eat; whether you eat sugar free and fat free food, or not. What matters is whether you consume more energy than you need, or not. It does not matter whether you eat 5 avocadoes and 5 oranges, or low-carb foods only. What matters is whether your total daily energy intake exceeds your energy requirements, or not. I guess you know about all those obese people that eat nothing but low-calorie foods. Consuming low calory foods does not make you lose weight. You don't need to avoid fats or sugars. You need to be in control of your appetite, in accordance with your need for energy. Actually, fats and sugars HELP you to control your appetite, BECAUSE they are highly nutritional / 'calorically dense': by consuming them, your body 'receives' the signal that the right (nutritionally / calorically) foods are ingested, which activates the system that controls your appetite, inhibiting your appetite. | kathy 08-16-2002 08:55 PM | Thanks for the great information, Wai & Lyn! I have a couple of specific questions: 1. For Wai - is it OK to start the day off with just the raw egg yolks, or do you have to have fruit in the morning? 2. For Lyn - you mentioned that losing weight is so effortless on this diet. How long (in weeks or months) did it take you to see a significant weight loss? Thanks, Kathy |
| Wai 08-17-2002 11:58 AM | quote:Well, once you are on the diet for a few days, you will NEED the fruits/juice in the morning, simply because you lack energy otherwise. While you are on this diet, there is no option of consuming no fruits/juices for a few hours; you would simply lack energy too badly. The egg yolks don't supply you with sugars, and sugars you need for the brains and muscles. So, when you consume egg yolks (while on this diet), you first (or together with the yolks) need to consume sufficient fruit-sugars too, to supply your brains with sufficient energy. Don't think that your body has sufficient energy at its disposal because you are overweight: there is a BIG difference between energy stored in body fat, and the available energy in your blood. No matter how much extra fat you have, you NEED the sugars from food to be able to function. And...the funny thing is that you NEED those sugars to be able to utilize body fat. Moreover, you also NEED dietary fat, even if you are obese. Consuming too little fat, you will stimulate your body to hold on to your body fat (stimulating your appetite), 'since your food obviously lacks fat'. So, no matter how contradictive this may sound to you, but you need to consume sufficient sugars and fats to be able to lose your overweight. If you don't, your cravings will simply be too strong. Also: Most people that are on my diet, don't even WANT to lose weight, because they already are (too) slim, but if they don't watch out, they will lose weight anyway. On this diet it is extremely easy to lose weight, and quite an effort to gain weight. The reason: It takes a lot of effort to make constantly sure to eat enough, because the foods you eat no longer contain appetite enhancers that make you eat more than you need. With a 'normal' diet, it is very easy to consume more energy than you need at that moment. And if these moments of overeating are in balance with those moments that you eat too little (because you have no time, or because you forgot for example), this person will not be overweight. But with this diet, there are never moments of overeating, so that every time that you have no time, or forget to eat at time, you will lose weight. (which does NOT mean that that is the way to lose weight) On this diet, losing weight is effortless. Maintaining your weight requires paying attention. And gaining weight is just for those with lots of determination and willpower. |
| lyn 08-17-2002 09:51 PM | Hi Kathy, When i first started Wai's diet i was already a little too thin. I didn't do the juicing (for energy)like she talks about so i lost a good amount of weight it seemed (i don't own a scale but the mirror and your clothes getting baggy don't lie)and that was within 8 days. Now i juice and i'm not losing the weight but like Wai said it IS an effort. The reason i'm on the diet is for acne and it seems to be improving. My insides feel clean too. That sounds kinda strange but it's true. And i love fruit now and crave it, where at first i had to really force myself to eat it. And kinda the same for raw red tuna, which sounded gross in the beginning. I hope you give this diet(way of eating) a try. Take care! |
| tres 08-28-2002 01:36 PM | Hi there Kathy, I have tried Wai's diet because of my colon problem, can tell you that I had problems trying to convince myself that eating fat's & sugar is good for you. I have prior to this diet been on a eating plan that was subscribed by my dietitian. It included oats in the morning, fruit or yogurt at 10:00, pasta with tamato based sauce or minced meat for lunch & cooked beetroot. Little fat and no hard fruits, only soft ones,no banana's(constipating effect), lots of water, no bread or coffee, no spices or onions, no lettuce, beans or coliflower (gassy and bloated effect), no sugars and I even had enzyme suppliments. My tummy did not go for up to 3 days & was bloated all the time. This went on for about 11 months. I had to drink seedoil before every meal, and I also had to drink 8 glasses of water every day. I picked up 6kg. (lost it going to gym everyday & cutting out the pasta) I tried everything. When I eventually stumbled acros Wai's diet, I was ready to try anything and started the next day. I can honestly tell you that my bloatness is gone, have been going twice a day, sometimes more, and I feel great. Every night I have a munch-food, but if I eat anything with weat, like pasta or bread, I struggle to go again for a day. As soon as I eat fruits the next morning I am fine again. I love avocado, banana's and apple salad in the morning. It keep's me going for atleast 3 hours. I have my egg yolk in my 10:00 or 15:00 drink. I have not picked up any weight and have been eating avo's, nuts and olive oil everyday now. I tell you, you are going to see and feel the difference. Just try it, and you will see, the longer you are on the diet, the more you crave fruits. Good luck Helanie |
