| Author | Topic: tuna and salmon aggravate acne?!?! |
| freshjive 05-02-2003 10:41 PM | I found this on a website.... omega-3 fatty acids Foods rich in essential fatty acids should be heartily consumed for skin health since they help dilute oily sebum, decreasing the chance of clogged pores. Essential fatty acids are also recommended as liver-strengthening nutrients to help improve acne. NOTE: Though tuna, salmon, and walnuts are leading sources of omega-3 fatty acids, it may be advisable to avoid them because of their iodine content, which may aggravate acne. Better choices for omega-3 rich foods include canola and soybean oil, lake trout, and wheat germ. |
| jay_1 05-03-2003 01:45 AM | I consume cage-free, vegetarian fed hen eggs that are contain omega 3 fatty acids. I wonder if it is o.k. to eat these? |
| RRM 05-03-2003 01:26 PM | The reason why I moved this thread to this forum (from the Eggs & Fish forum), is because it caused confusion, as is shown by Jay-1's response. I moved it from the Eggs & Fish forum, because that forum is part of the 'sample diet' section, where questions about the implementation of the sample diet are asked. This section is kind of a sample diet Q and A library. Freshjive's post is about an other theory about what causes acne. Some people theorize that acne is not caused by food at all. Others think that jodium is the cause, or fat. That is perfectly fine, but it has nothing to do with the sample diet. Now, my response to Freshjive's post: quote:The fat consumed, has nothing to do with the texture / amount / volume of fatty substances produced by the skin (sebum and oil). The oil / sebum is produced by the sebaceous glands, and does not come from the digestive tract. quote:In our view, acne is not due to malperformance of the liver. quote:I think that the speculation here is that acne is caused by malperformance of the thyroid, due to iodide hypersensitivity? Well, if I don't stick to the 100% strict sample diet, I have very severe cystic acne all over. But I eat tuna and salmon daily (containing 50 and 34 microgram iodide respectively), without having a single pimple ever. If they think that iodine causes acne, they must have a complete theory about how it does so. Maybe you can post it in this thread? BTW, I will soon change the name of this thread into "Iodide aggravates acne?", because I think that covers your concern better (and causes less confusion), is that okay? RRM |
| RRM 05-03-2003 01:30 PM | Jay-1,quote:Nobody said / claimed that omega-3 fats aggravate acne. The theory promoted on that other website is that iodide aggravates acne, not omega-3 fats. (We don't agree with that theory, by the way) So, yes, you can perfectly consume these eggs safely; they do not cause acne. RRM |
| freshjive 05-04-2003 07:12 AM | Sure, you can change the title of the post. But I don't understand. You are saying that what is found on that website is NOT true? And, I have a few more questions I hope u can answer ASAP to clarify my doubts. Firstly, this is my 2nd day of the diet, and I don't seem to notice any improvement... Is it normal or am I doing something wrong in the diet? Secondly, fresh salmon cannot be found from where I stay so they are shipped from other countries and are frozen along the way. Then to store them, I have to keep it in the freezer so that it won't turn bad. Is this VERY BAD? Also, I read that as a woman, I should only eat 50g of raw fish a day which is just 2 slices of salmon. Is that really enough? And thirdly, I have no large, hard painful pimples on my face and never had. But, I have some pretty small bumbs spreaded around my cheeks and even some on my forehead. There is rarely any pus and even if there is it is just a really small dot on each bumb. So which category does my acne fall into? Mild or Moderate? lastly, (sorry for asking so many questions) how do I get rid of my blackheads without squeezing them? Oh wait, before I forget! One more question... is suntanning bad for my skin? Please reply ASAP! thanks ![]() |
