| nadia 12-24-2002 02:05 PM | I believe that diet and stress can play a big role in causing acne, but why then doesn't everyone who eats crap and is under stress have acne? Or why does anyone at all have acne? I, like a lot of you i'm sure, know of people who lead busy, stressful lives, who eat whatever they want, who work out and wipe the sweat off with their own hands, who hardly take any care of their skin and it is perfect, or near perfect. My question is WHY? Why are some people acne prone and others, no matter what they do or eat are not??? It has to be more than just diet. WHY? |

But eating McDonalds certainly plays a causal role in obesity, as does nicotine in cancer and anxiety in heart failure. Likewise, the fact that a stressed-out junk-food snacker may have clear skin doesn't mean that stress and diet aren't causes of acne. The answer to your WHY probably lies in genetic predisposition and other individual differences. |

People with acne produce more sebum than other people, which makes them much more susceptible to acne. And when two people produce equally much sebum, the one that retains more water (which also depends on your susceptibility to the water retention influence of hydrophylic molecules), will have more severe acne. |
