| tasya 11-29-2002 11:13 AM | I am curious: a question for Wai and other acne sufferers : I always thought acne especially severe facial acne was a problem of teenagers and not a problem for people in their twenties and older - is the kind of acne different to the kind you findin teenagers or is the acne the one gotten as a teenager that never went away? I know a type of acne that adults get especially women when they get their period but it's usually temporary and consists of big cysts around the chin area. Men can suffer acne too but I've seen it mainly in men using steroids. Acne that adolescents get looks different- it's all over the face making the person look very spotty and is intractable until the person grows out of it. There is also the acne that appears on the back that dies down after puberty although vestiges of it can remain in the form of bunps on the skin. Then there is the 'acne' you can see on adults which appears on the nose : it looks like their nose is covered in bumps and large pores but I think that's a separate problem. I think acne has alot to do with inadequate fats in the diet - not enough or the wrong kind as I know of a vegetarian woman who had very little fat in her diet and she had the nose acne problem for many years and couldn't get rid of it although the rest of her face was free of acne. I don't suffer from acne myself although I had a bad case of it as a teenager so I am curious as to the type of acne the sufferers here have - whether it is identical to teenage acne. |

In as well teenage acne, adult acne, as in period-related acne, hormones are one aspect. The acne is about the same, though the culprits (the 'trigger'; in combination with the hormones)can differ (salt, protein, fluctuating blood sugar) quote:ehhrrr, actually there are LOADS of men with adult acne, that don't use steroids. quote:Adults can very well have acne that looks no different quote:that is only one aspect, and only goes for those with a less strictly regulated blood sugar level; the fats are essential to stabilize your blood sugar level. quote:For me the acne is exactly the same as when I was a teenager. Whenever I eat cooked foods or salt, I get them; and they are exactly the same as back then, at the same spots. |
