| caroline 09-12-2002 07:50 PM | Hi, I'm new and really desperate for direction RE my acne. I began a RAW/Living Foods Diet in March 2002 and maintained it 100% until July, approximately 4 months. At this time I started developing large red cysts on my jaw and neckline, mostly clustered on the left side of my jawline. These cysts are large and do not go away, camping on my face for weeks and weeks. I tried Tree Tea Oil and got mild results but not much. I also started including some "cooked" food as some people suggested my acne may be "detox" and I may want to "slow down" a bit. But that certainly has not helped. Last, I am 42 and well into Menopause [had my blood/saliva tested earlier this year to confirm]. My intuition is this acne is hormonally induced. So... is there any more I can do dietwise? I am back 100% RAW vegan. I am reluctant to eat RAW fish, just doens't seem healthy for me although I am considering it an option if you can provide solid rationale for its inclusion. Also, You mention to wash the face with "rosewater" and cucumber. Do you mean to just mash a cucmber and add rosewater. Thanks much for all information Caroline |

Check out this thread about "detoxification": link quote:Yes, we can check your diet for any possible culprit. Do you sometimes add salt to your food? Any spices? Do you eat grains? Do you take supplements? quote:Supplements may cause acne too. But if you don't eat any fish / egg yolks (or other animal food), then you need the vitamin B12. So, in order to test whether the supplements cause acne in you, you may try to replace them by fresh raw egg yolks for a little while... (you can add them to fresh orange juice; stir with a fork) quote:OR Rosewater OR cucumber juice. (yes, you can use a mixer to blend the cucumber) |

In the first four months of my RAW diet I ate fruit all day, whatever was in season: peaches, blueberrries, papaya, mango, nectarines, strawberries, blackberries. As much fruit as needed to feel satisfied. Then I'd eat a large green salad for dinner usually consisting of spinach, romaine, purslaine, tomatoes, avocado, [occasional nuts, usually almonds, walnuts, pinenuts or brazil nuts] and olive oil and lemon dressing. In addition, when my menopausal symtoms become acute I add "green juices" as they seem to lessen the flashes: usually, kale, colllard, dandelion and celery juice. During this period I did not use salt, except once when I'd been constipated and I drank a "salt water flush". [celtic sea salt and warm water, yuk. never do it again] I also did not use spices during this period except occasional seasonl herbs like basil, cilantro, parsley and thyme. Last, I did eat some "dehydrated" RAW cracker on occasion, again usually when my symtoms were acute and I wanted "munchie" food for fun and comfort. During this time my skin looked absolutely radiant. About four months into RAW, I began to experience the acne and started to eat a bit of pasta with red sauce, meaning once or twice a week. The sauce would be made with tomatoes, garlic, basil and olive oil. I also began to drink a bit of wine on the weekend. One or two glasses one night a week. I continued to lots of fruit and salad. Last, I have started to take an amino acid supplement [5-HTP] because I experience waves of hormonal moodiness and crying depression and this seems to "even" me. At this point, I am back to all RAW, again mostly fruit, greens and nuts. [still some green juices] All organic, all seasonal. Mostly fresh melon and figs, spinach, chard, avocado, red pepper salads with Olive Oil and lemon Thank you for your advice, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Caroline |
