While most women say their acne gets worse right before their period mine gets very noticeably better, and then worse right afterword. I've noticed my skin does look better already, but I don't know if it's from positive changes in my diet or b/c my period's coming up. Any thoughts?
Thanks

The level of both estrogen and progesterone fluctuate strongly. The susceptibility of the receptors to these hormones is individually very different.
Progesterone generally is acne promoting and estrogen acne inhibiting, due to their influence on sebum production, but it can also be the other way around, since these hormones also strongly influence how much water is retained (water retention causes the pinching off of sebum canals). So, if the influence of your hormones on water retention is stronger than that on the production of sebum, the correlation of your acne with the menstrual cycle may be opposite to that of most other women. (in you the water retention-decreasing effect of the increased hormone levels may be stronger than the sebum-stimulating effect)
