| lyn 09-01-2002 05:43 PM | Wai, i thought i read in your book (i can't find it now)that if you are losing weight on the diet and you don't need to lose weight that burning the muscle for energy can cause acne. is this true? thanks. |
| Wai 09-02-2002 12:11 PM | quote:Yes. not in everybody, but, yes, it IS possible; If you are converting muscle tissue into available energy, large proteins are cut in small parts before being converted into energy. If the need for energy is constantly high, this will probably not cause acne, because then all the small protein is really converted into energy, but if the need for energy is less constant, then the conversion of muscle tissue into smaller protein, may lead to temporary increased blood protein levels, which eventually may lead to higher skin-protein levels. And this extra protein attracts more water, which leads to a higher water presure in the skin, which pinches off the sebum canals. And if your skin produces much sebum, this will cause new acne. So, yes, it is possible, but depends on a number of factors. |

| Wai 03-13-2003 07:51 AM | quote:in my theory, acne is caused by the combination of: 1. producing much sebum 2. water retention bad (=damaged) fats do not influence your sebum production and they also don't have water-attracting properties (unlike salt and protein, and sugars to a lesser extend) so, no influence... |
