| riko 08-16-2002 03:23 PM | Is there any food or drink that is eliminating acne, for ex. eliminating the water pressure under the skin? Wai? There are a lot of teas for eliminating cellulite, so if they are making some results in that way, maybe they are good for acne too? Maybe, except for defending from bad food, we should strike back. Something like : "Eat munch food the same amount you eat the antiacne food". |
| Wai 08-17-2002 11:33 AM | quote: I'm sorry, but no. In theory, there are 2 ways to tackle acne: A decreasing water retention B decreasing the production of sebum A; In water retention there are multiple factors involved: hormones, salt consumption, sugar metabolism, protein levels. B; In the production of sebum, hormones are the main factor, but in extremely high amounts, also other factors can be of influence (retinoids, vitamin B5) The reason why only B is addressed by anti acne drugs manufacturers, is that if you address one of the causes in A, the other factors can still cause water retention, while in B, adressing only one of these factors can already sufficiently decrease the production of sebum. So, in A you need to eliminate ALL causes (and...and...and), while, for example, vitamin B5 can already do the trick in B, OR Accutane, OR hormone replacement therapy. Back to your question; So, if you want to find an anti-acne food, it needs to decrease the production of sebum, through altering your hormone metabolism for example. But that does not sound like a good idea at all... quote:You said it: "if they are making some results" Well, IF they would, no longer would 90% of women have cellulite... Even if that tea would be very expensive, women would buy it anyway, IF it would work. But they don't work. Why? For the same reason that diuretic drugs don't help. They are far more powerful than diuretic teas, but they don't take away the cause of retaining too much water either. It is like mobbing up the bathroom floor, while the tab is still open and water is still running onto the floor; no matter how fast you are, you will never be able to dry the floor, unless you close the tab. So, these drugs and teas can temporarily and/or incidentally make you retain less water, but not much, and not for long. If they would really make a difference, the people who take those drugs / teas, would no longer retain too much water. I guess everybody has some friends or family that know someone who takes those pills; ask them whether that person still retains too much water. quote:That is the same idea as behind the diet foods. In the US they consume more diet products than anywhere in the world, while Americans, on the average, are fatter than any other people. Have you never seen those giants consuming low calorie foods only? |
