| sunny 10-17-2002 03:18 PM | Hi! I've been using a tinted cream as a foundation. It 'covers pimples and mattes shiny skin. Has a calming and soothing effect and helps to prevent the increase of bacteria'. So far, it has been true to its word. However, I wonder if this has any long term negative effects on my skin especially with its matting effect. Here are the ingredients: Purified Springwater, Octyl Stearate, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Stearic Acid, Sorbitol, Zinc Oxide, Talc, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Glyceryl Stearate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Farnesol, Allantoin, Xantham Gum, Bisabolol, Carrageenan, Retinyl Plamitate, Tocopherol, Citric Acid, Methylaparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance, Titanium Dioxide (C177891), Iron Oxides (C177489). Whew! I seem to recall reading something about cosmetics that goes: "If you cannot read it (pronounce it) don't put it on your face (or for food: don't eat it if you can't read the ingredients)." When I finally achieve clear skin, I would like to only wear make-up on special occasions like weddings and parties. Right now, I still have a loooooooong way to go. . My skin has gone through so so much for more than 10 years; from harsh topical medications to oral ones. My pores are now like craters, the skin's texture is visibly uneven and the tone is blotchy. But I know that NOW I am doing something better and positive to my skin and my over-all health. This is what keeps me going. An aesthetician I used to see also recommended ice-ing the face for 5-10 minutes not only to (temporarily) close the pores but also to prevent new bumps from becoming full-grown inflammations. The ice is supposed to stimulate blood circulation to the blemished area. The blood then takes away the bacteria from that area (she didn't say where it ends up). What do you think about the cream and the ice, Wai? BTW, I'm on my 9th day. Pimples are still visible but slowly drying up. I realized that my cleanser that has tea tree oil in it has been drying up my skin just a little bit too much. Until I get myself some rosewater, I have reduced its use to once a day. Thank you!!! moi, sunny ![]() |
| Wai 10-17-2002 04:40 PM | quote:Well, none of the ingredients is listed as one of the "Ten Most Unwanted Ingredients In Personal Care Products", but the metals (Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide (C177891), Iron Oxides (C177489)) worry me a bit, because of their pro-oxidative (damaging) properties. The anti-bacterial effect is also not a good sign, since you need toxins or pro-oxidative substances to 'prevent the increase of bacteria'. You may look for a foundation that does not claim 'to prevent growth of bacteria, and that does not contain these metals. But if you need this tinted cream to feel confident, and if there is nothing else that works about as good, I shouldn't tell you not to use it, even though that it accelerates the aging of your skin... The use of ice to reduce the swellings is okay. (the removed bacteria are destroyed by enzymes) |
