Hi Riverdown,

The extra oil that is secreted by your skin, is a reaction to what happens with your skin.

1. It can be a reaction to regular dehydration, due to to intense cleansing regimes, or too aggressive cleansing agents.

2. It can be due to your acne:
Acne is cause by the pinching off of sebum canals, due to a too high water presure. This can be caused by a too high level of water-attracting substances in the true skin. This doesn't 'only' cause acne, due to the higher water pressure in the true skin, but also distracts water from the outer skin, into the true skin. In reaction, the skin may produce more oil or sebum, to protect the outer skin against dehydration.

That is a waaaay too aggressive cleansing agent, that may even be part of the cause of your acne. (since stimulating the production of sebum / oil)
At least it certainly is part of the cause of the excessive oil production. It's a vicious circle; the more you clean your skin, the more oil (and/or sebum) your skin needs to produce to protect it against dehydration.

The best non-dehydrating cleansing agents are rosewater and cucumber juice.
Rosewater you can buy in shops. Cucumber juice you can buy too, but you can also very easily make it yourself; you just need a juice extractor or a blender, and a piece of cucumber.

Certainly don't clean your face more than twice a day.

You can use either cucumber juice OR rosewater.
Rosewater you need to buy in a shop.
Cucumber juice you can make yourself: Just peel a cucumber, and put it in a blender (or better, if you one, in a juice extractor). Blend the cucumber. Then take a cloth of cotton wool / make-up-remover-tissue. Poor some cucumber juice on it, and rinse your face with it. When you are done, rinse with water. Dry your face with a towel (not totally dry) Then use a fingertip of oil on your face (that is still a bit moist) to protect it against dehydration.

Hi Riverdown,

Remember to use low mineral water on your face, otherwise it is going to feel very dry.

Good luck.

Is it good to take a piece of tissue paper
and blot the excess oil from my skin?
or should i leave the oil on my skin?

I a bit confused. My skin is high in sebum production(oily skin).

I wonder if the sebum produced is enough or do I really need to apply extra oil onto the skin?

I understand that the reason why my skin is oily is due to the dehydration of the outer skin. Does this means that if I apply oil, the skin will not produce excess sebum or does it still produce sebum as normal? If so, wouldn't my skin becomes more oily? [Eek!]

Thanks for any advice!

especially if your skin produces too much oil/sebum, you need to apply oil to your skin, to stop the vicious cycle

the more oil you apply to the skin, the less oil / sebum needs to be produced by the skin to protect the skin, which is what happens

OK this is my first post here so..be gentle. I am on day 3 of the sample diet and am still having some new pimples. I have also been very confused about what to wash my face with. But also how? I keep reading to use rosewater or cucumber juice, but do I put a handful on my face and wash and rub with my fingertips or a cotton ball or washcloth? It is difficult for me to think of just rinsing with water as actually washing my face. I have been using Dove for sensitive skin, and purpose soap, and cetaphil, just about everything the Dermetologist recommends, the problem is my skin gets dry, flaky, and still breaks out. After the initial feeling of clean my face is so tight I am afraid to smile. And maybe not 3 or 4 hours later I beging to see the the oil in my pores. Also my face has been itching could this be because of brazil nuts?
Anyhow I know that Is alot I apologize if my questions have already been asked/answered I did my best to search.
Also in what store do I purchase rosewater and oils for face?
Thanks in advance

Amon(it sucks to be 28 and have pimples all over your face)

Can I apply oil to my skin after it clears up (Hope it does!) cuz I really don't want to worsen the acne....?

Thanks for any advice!

well, the oil may actually be required to clear up... (that is why it is a rule)
please read this thread

Hi Wai, I'm still not able to get hold of the walnut oil. As for the internet, I don't have a credit card. So I guess I have to stick to olive oil for the time being....

I understand that the high amount vitamin E in olive oil causes ageing of skin, but does it also affect acne?

I guess its gonna be olive oil or nothing at the moment, so is it still ok for me to keep applying olive oil on my face?

Olive oil doesn't contain a HIGH level of vitamin E, but not a very low level either.
Vitamin E accelerates shedding of the skin cells, and if that shedding is actually accelerated, the aging of the skin is accelerated as well.
So, it is okay to use the olive oil, but walnot oil or cocos oil is better.

The vitamin E does not affect acne, but if the level would be too high, then the accelerated shedding of the skin will trigger the production of sebum (since sebum is produced to prevent dehydration / accelerated shedding of skin cells), and that may lead to acne.

Olive oil is better than nothing indeed.
