| RyanK 04-03-2003 10:56 PM | Dear Wai, First of all, thank you for writing the book and spending so much time on all this to help others out. I don’t know how you figured all this out but everything you teach is so true and so logical. You’re a great person and a smart cookie. I’ve been following your diet on and off for about 2 months now and I’ve read over all the message boards. I did it strictly for a few weeks and it worked great and then I went back to a normal diet for a week to compare and, of course, I broke out again and started having that clausterphobic/anxiety type feeling again. Then I followed it strictly again for about two weeks and now this week I am trying a normal “healthy balanced” diet one more time to compare and because I ran into some problems doing the 100% strict diet and still have a bunch of questions and things I need to figure out and get organized before I go back on the diet. I’ve been trying to figure as much out on my own as possible and getting experience with the diet first before I asked any questions but I’ve managed to work up quite a list of questions as I really believe in this diet and want to get it right and make it work for me. Please excuse the length and thanks for your time. 1) Both times I did the 100% strict diet, I wound up feeling achy, almost like going through a drug detoxification. This last time I did the diet, I lost 5 lbs and was getting a bit lightheaded and felt like I was gonna faint at times. I know this is probably due to not ingesting enough energy but I already am eating pounds of fruit a day and drinking several glasses of O.J. with oil and sugar. I began thinking that my blood sugar levels were fluctuating way too much and I may be in early stages of diabetes because my vision was also getting blurred and I was thinking that I wasn’t using enough fats to balance the sugars because I didn’t know about the 0.5 grams fat to 1 gram carbs rule but then I figured out that I was very dehydrated. I’ve been drinking a lot of water today and my symptoms have started to go away and I put 2 or 3 lbs back on. - Was it not ingesting enough energy or being dehydrated that caused all these symptoms or was it both? Do I need to consume more food or just more water? - How did I get so dehydrated? I thought we don’t have to drink water because fruit contains so much water and every time I eat nuts or dried fruit, I drink a little water. Is it just that I have to drink a lot more water if I’m gonna eat nuts and dried fruits and not merely a small glass? - If we don’t sufficiently balance sugars with fat (say we drank OJ with a lot of sugar added but very little or no oil), could this cause diabetes? What health effects will the highly fluctuating blood sugar levels have? (I’m really worried that I might have diabetes now – blurred vision, faintness, achiness, etc) - I’ve mostly been eating a few Brazil Nuts after eating fruit in order to balance with fats but after using the calculator, it seems as though I’d need about 30 or so nuts each time! Is that right??? Also, the 0.5 gram fat to 1 gram carb rule…woudlnt’ that mean this diet has about half of its calories coming from fat and half coming from carbs, with a few % coming from protien? 2) Since guys need relatively less fat, less cholesterol, more protein, more carbs per day, does the 0.5 grams fat to 1 gram carbs rule apply to guys as well? I am eating 4 yolks per day…is this enough? Too much? Where did the 0.5 gram fat per 1 gram carb rule come from? 3) I wanna start lifting weights soon but I’m worried about not enough protein. The FDA reccomends about 60 grams per day. Four egg yolks is only about 10 grams protein. Even including all the nuts and fruits, I figure I’d only be getting maybe 15-20 grams protein today. Is that enough??? Enough to gain muscle? What Is the average weight a person can gain per week by lifting weights and what would be the maximum amount of weight (muscle volume) a person could gain a week by lifting? 4) I am currently drinking Poland Spring water. Is this ok? If we drink distilled water instead, would we still get enough of all the minerals we need? Where would we get these minerals from? Are they in the fruits? 5) The Rose Water I bought has the following ingredients: deionized water, rose flavor, sodium benzoate. Is this ok? 6) I know that too much of anything is bad and we shouldn’t need to take any vitamins or supplements if we maintain a healthy diet, but I was curious if taking a simple multivitamin (not mega-doeses of a single vitamin) every day is harmful? I know we shouldn’t NEED to but would it be harmful in any way? 7) Your boyfriend said he adds about 100-150 grams of sugar and 50 grams of oil to every 1.5 liters of OJ. I was shocked at how much sugar that is! 100 grams is a huge pile of sugar!!! Is that right? And is consuming all that sugar ok? What about all that oil? 8) Can you create a list of fruits that combine well and ones that don’t so we have a starting point in figuring out which ones will combine well for us individually. Also, exactly how do u know if a combination is good or not? 9) For calculating nutrients, how do u weigh juices? For instance, to calculate nutrients in a glass of OJ, would I just plug into the nutrient calculator the weight of all the oranges squeezed? Or the weight of the actual juice I got out of the oranges? Do u lose any of the nutrients by not eating the pulp? 10) What do primates eat and how does it differ from our natural diet? What animals (if any) have a natural diet most similar to humans natural diet and how come they didn’t get smart? (You always say that it’s the combination of sugars and cholesterol that enabled humans to grow smart) 11) What did our ancestors eat after fruit to stabalize their blood sugar? What was their sources of fat? It seems very unlikely that they used olive oil. If they didn’t have to stabalize their blood sugar, how come we do? 12) I plan on getting a blood test soon and then another one after several months on the diet. I think we should try to convince as many people on this diet as possible to do the same. It would be interesting and good statistical data to have to substantiate this diet. Well that’s all my questions. Thanks a million! P.S. – I’ve gotten several family members interested in this diet so I’d really like to get this completely figured out and prove to them that it does work and is safe and healthy. Just gotta get over these lingering questions and the pitfalls with the experiences I’ve had so far. |
| Cheryl2002 04-04-2003 08:58 AM | Hello....just to share my experience....whilst on the strict diet, I was ALWAYS hungry, and ate really alot! Even then I still lose weight....just to share with you that as a gal myself...I consumed AT LEAST 3 egg yolks a day! I realised then I had to because then I wouldn;t feel so giddy! And when I was about to have my period and during the period, I actually ate around 5-6 yolks.... Next, in curbing my hunger, I ate at least 3 bananas a day too. In summary, I find that bananas, yolks, and avocadoes are the BEST to keep hunger at bay... So for you , as a guy, I think you would need much more yolks... Hope this helps! WAi, I suppose the question would be....is it harmful to eat so much yolks since they contain cholestral? Thank you! |
| Wai 04-04-2003 01:37 PM | Hi Ryan, welcome to the board first of all, i will move this entire thread to the "mixed experiences" forum once you have responded to this post, and i will also change the subject of it, into something like: "feeling achy, weightloss, lightheadedness, dehydrated" quote:he, he, you actually might have experienced that... 'normal' (cooked) foods contain physically addictive substances (beta-carbolines in cooked foods and opioid peptides in wheat- and dairy products) quote:exactly, all signs are there quote:you can only lose weight if you are ingesting too little energy, period so, you ARE it is very normal that you have problems ingesting enough energy first of all, you are used to the appetite enhancers in 'normal' food (the physical addictive substances), so, that once you don't ingest them anymore, your appetite is no longer stimulate, and you need to get used to following your energy requirements instead of your addiction That takes time, and a lot of focus and attention from your side Now, you need to get adjusted to consuming food all the time, instead of eating just a few meals a day And, it is very simple: if you have problems ingesting enough energy, you need to consume more easy to digest food instead of whole fruits, and, add more sugar and oil quote:that is due to the lack of energy; it causes blurry vision as well diabetes is not caused that fast, and certainly not by simple sugars quote:you probably aren't, since you are still thinking that consuming much oil might be bad... quote:that is just water quote:not enough energy quote:more juice, with more sugar and oil quote:you weren't, you were losing the excessive water your body had been retaining all your life quote:exactly quote:no and you better drink more juice instead of water; the water fills you up without supplying you with energy, which is not good for you quote:eventually, after a few years, yes quote:diabetes eventually, and acne quote:no, you need more oil, and you need avocadoes, for example quote:no, a bit more from the protein just take a good look at the nutrient calculator quote:it is just a very general guideline, but yes quote:no, and you probably may eat more, like 10 yolks a day quote:it is a good guideline it makes you clear that eating more fat is better, and absolutely safe it doesn't mean that you really have to comply to that ratio, but it is a good guideline quote:20 grams? that is nonsense please check out the calculator!!! quote:the first condition for gaining muscle weight is ingesting enough energy, because every second that you are not ingesting enough energy, your body converts muscle protein into available energy... But yes, consuming more protein is absolutely a big help you can safely experiment with consuming more raw protein Some severe acne sufferers can actually even consume 300 gram raw salmon, or 15 egg yolks... so you need to experiment with that quote:it is much more important to know how you can gain weight very steadily, and keep it... you can gain a few kilos a month quote:absolutely! quote:yes, from our food please check out the nutrient calculator quote:how much sodium benzoate does it contain? quote:it may be, not just regarding acne, but also regarding calcium, for example quote:it is perfectly okay, and helps him greatly to maintain his muscle weight (i love it !)it is a very effective way to ingest enough energy how can it be bad in your mind? quote:check out this thread quote:by carefully listening to your body's reaction (repeatedly for each combination) quote:you can measure juices by milliliters, cups, pints or liquid ounces... check out the calculator! quote:simply pour the juice in a measure glass (or an empty bottle; the contents are mentioned at the label) quote:it is not about what you don't eat, but about what you eat if you eat the most nutritious part (the juice) instead of the most fibrous part (the pulp), it is most easy to ingest sufficient of all the nutrients quote:fruits, insects and leaves; it is because of the leaves that they have such gassy bellies humans naturally don't eat leaves quote:i don't know of any (other) animal that is both a scavenger / hunter and eats lots of fruits... quote:they probably ate small pieces of fruits and nuts constantly (grazing all day), and consumed larger amounts of protein and fat in a single meal (being scavengers too) quote:they used to eat constantly as most animals, they were busy all day with only one thing: food they were constantly nibbling on anything edible, ensureing a very constant influx of small amounts of sugar Nowadays, we have much more things on our mind than just food. thus we need to consume more concentrated foods, comntaining more sugars, and thus we need more fat to stabilize our blood sugar level... quote:that is a GREAT idea, PLEASE keep us all updated, okay? |

| RyanK 04-06-2003 12:04 AM | Hi Wai, Thanks for taking the time out to answer all those questions! And for replying so soon too . Just to update...after trying the "normal balanced" diet one more time, I broke out again so it's back to the Wai diet and after I clear up, I'm gonna start experimenting with what munch foods I can eat and how much. As far as the Rose Water, it doesn't say how much Sodium Benzoate so I bought another brand and the ingredients are just Purified Water and Aromatic Oil of Rose. Is that good? Thanks so much! RyanK P.S. - My whole family is very intrigued by this whole diet. I've told them all about this diet and I've already proven to them that acne is caused by food. Now they're tryin to eat more fruit and eat more healthy too! |
| Wai 04-18-2003 04:41 PM | quote:yes I transferred your questions about diabetes to the thread specifically about that issue okay? Can you please ask your questions about diabetes in that thread? and your other questions and your experiences here? |
