AuthorTopic: Day 12, things are looking worse

I'm on Day 12 of the diet and I thought I had already passed the initial breakout stage but my condition has continually gotten worse!

My acne used to be 5-10 isolated pimples with new ones coming everyday or so.

Now I have bumps that are like hundreds of tiny whiteheads all over. Day 9 on the diet I got them all over my nose, now they are less on my nose but all over my forehead, between the eyes, and next to the nose on one side.

I will cut out brazil nuts to see if that was causing it, I hope not because I like them.

Also I have not been eating enough, only 1000-1500 kcal per day, I know this could be a problem but could it cause all these bumps like this?

Seems more like an allergic reaction to me.

I am still wary of eating raw eggs and all the sushi around here is "frozen fresh" they say despite being close to the ocean, can I be okay just eating fruit and taking a multivitamin?

I actually experienced something very similar to you. Prior to this diet I had a few pimples but my skin in general was pretty clear before. However after starting this diet, I began to get bumps (like white heads), many of them!, all over my forehead and nose and these are places not prone to acne before.

However, what convinced me this diet was good for my health was because I began to see the skin on other parts of my body improve. It began to have a "glow". This diet definetely has an impact on water rentention because my face is not so bloated anymore, the dark circles around my eyes has lightened and there are several other healthy indications that keeps my faith for this diet.

But I still believe everyone is individually different and what works for me may not necessary be the same for you... so I'm still experimenting.
For me fat/sugar level didn't make much of a difference as I tried increasing the fat intake before. Instead I have decreased my fat intake and adapt to what my body can handle.

But what suprised me was after a rough training the other day, I got home and was incredibly hungry. I chose to have an egg sandwich and a yogurt for munchfood. Something I haven't ate in weeks as I tried to avoid dairy and meat products. What a satisfying meal [Big Grin] . Anyhow, the next day I noticed my bumps cleared up a little. The improvement was definetely noticable.

So I looked over my diet again and I was quite convinced I was not getting enough protein. I consumed 3 eggyolks a day already, 1-2 avocado and also a tomato/cucumber salad but I was NOT consuming brazil nuts as it's impossible to find unshelled brazil nuts here.

So Wai, are there other ways to replace my protein requirements if that's the real cause for my breakout right now? I consume lots of fruits already but things don't seem to improve...Even though dairy products and certain meat (chicken) does help eliminate my pimples, I don't want to take any other unnecessary substances along with need for protein. Are there any other food you recommend?

Overall, too lil protein seems to by a trigger for my pimples more than too much "dirty" protein at the moment.

I've noticed my muscles have weakened too.... [Frown]

i experience the same thing you do! lack of protein - what works for me is raw fish. i've been adding sashimi to my diet for the past couple of days and it has helped a lot! it's even more digestible then cooked meat! however i am switching to just raw salmon because sashimi is quite pricey.

I had a whole lot of forehead & nose bumps starting on day 10 of the diet, and I tried cutting out coconut oil and nuts, to no effect.

I originally suspected it was because I was not getting enough protein or calories, which may be partially true. (1000-2000 kcal, 20 g protein about)

Day 15 bumps were slowly receding very slightly on their own, so I started taking Benedryl as that clears up allergic reactions pretty well.
And the bumps were gone within the day.

I also went off the sample diet eating cooked meat starting the night of Day 15. It is possible that this had some effect but the Benedryl was definitely making a big difference before I went off the diet.

Bumps came back the next morning but I took benedryl again and they were gone. (I also ate more meat though)

I'm going to try eating a little bit of meat everyday because I usually don't have time or money to follow the diet strictly. (I'm not willing to do the raw egg yolks thing yet)

I know some people need the sample diet, but I've read on other boards that many people clear up acne simply by cutting out dairy and wheat, dairy because of hormones I guess, and wheat because it spikes your insulin too much.

I'm going to see how I do with a diet focusing on low GI (http://www.amescompany.com/GIindex.html)foods and avoiding dairy and wheat and see how that goes, before I try the sample diet again.

I also always ate a lot of high protein and dairy and wheat foods and very little fruit or sushi so Wai's site has definitely completely changed my perspective on eating for the better.

Is it possible I had an allergic reaction simply because my diet changed so drastically? I also get toothaches occasionally only since the diet started. (not use to chewing so much crunchy stuff maybe)

Mliq,
you never applied to all the sample rules (too little energy, too little protein)
and now you start looking for other solutions, without having ever stuck to the sample diet

this will result in speculation, which is exactly what happens on other acne boards
if you cant stick to the diet, and if you want to try something else, that is perfectly fine, but not on our board
this board is dedicated to this diet, so can you please do you experiments on another board, because you may confuse other people trying to stick to the sample diet rules

thank you, and good luck!
