| Author | Topic: Prolonged & heavy menstrual bleeding? |
| Isis 05-08-2003 09:29 PM | Has anyone else experienced this whilst on this diet? It seems to be getting worse with each passing menstrual cycle. At this rate I might be severely anaemic within a month. Wai, could there be some sort of clotting factor I am not getting enough of on this diet? It's no point using the nutrient calculator as I don't really know what to look out for. I know certain things can thin the blood (like Aspirin) and make bleeding more profuse, but I have not heard of 'diet' causing it. Any tips/comments/experience anyone would care to share would be highly appreciated. Thanks. |
| Wai 05-09-2003 12:10 PM | vitamin K aids blood clotting what foods do you eat? egg yolk, kiwis and avocado contain most, but strawberries, plums, hazelnuts, mackerel, oranges, grapes and peach also contain vitamin K |
| Isis 05-09-2003 02:43 PM | Thanks Wai, I eat everything you listed apart from kiwis and strawberries (they make my mouth itch). The ones I eat everyday are egg yolks and plums, and avocados just about every week. I heard the best sources of vitamin K are certain leafy vegetables (not allowed on this diet). I might consider a supplement then. |
| RRM 05-11-2003 03:56 PM | Leafy vegetables are NOT the best source, because they contain anti-nutrients that hinder the optimum utilisation of such vitamins. Maybe your problem is hormonal? Maybe the bleeding is not even a problem. How do you FEEL? RRM |
| Isis 05-30-2003 05:32 PM | RRM...you really want to know how I feel during my period? Well, I feel like ripping my insides out and stomping on them until it mushes up, then walking away and leaving it to dry into a crust under the hottest sun ever. Well you asked! The bleeding is one thing, but when it is heavy, the pain is absolutely dreadful! I even vomit, miss work etc. and sometimes crawl because it hurts so much to stand/walk. It is like this for the first two days. My doctors have investigated and come up with nothing. It then improved to the point where my pain meds actually had an effect (that is the only time in the month I usually take pain meds). Things went on like that until I started the diet and there seemed to be a gradual change and intolerance to the pain meds (basically they were no longer as effective as they used to be), and the bleeding became severe, almost unstoppable. It just soaked through everything rapidly...nights are nightmarish!! The pain is something I am still trying to deal with, but the increased bleeding is what worries me most. I am not anaemic now (well, I have been for so many years that I know without tests whether I am or not). I think it's thanks to the amount of egg yolk I eat on a daily basis, but still, when you have to change pads every hour...you've got to worry! I'll keep you posted how it goes next time. I am hoping that as my diet gets purer (being very strict on the diet) it would get less profuse/painful. Thanks. ![]() |
| RRM 05-31-2003 01:18 PM | How many egg yolks do you eat? RRM |
| Isis 05-31-2003 04:34 PM | It depends on the amount of avocado I eat in a day. I can eat up to three avocados in a day, in which case I might eat 2-3 egg yolks. On other days I tend to eat about 5 egg yolks, especially if I am very active physically. If I eat any more, I notice I break out in small bumps on my jawline. Well....? ![]() |
| RRM 06-01-2003 08:51 AM | Well, try increasing your egg yolk intake up to 8 egg yolks a day, during the period right before your period until 3 days after. So far, this has worked in a lot of women to diminish menstrual cramps / pains and bleedings. Please keep us updated! RRM |
| Isis 06-05-2003 08:14 PM | RRM, thanks for the tip. 8 egg yolks sounds like a lot compared to what I am used to, and I worry I might break out due to the amount, but I have learned that the best way to take advise is to give at least give it a try, so I will be trying that next time. However my period has already started and almost finished. GREAT news though...it went without any serious pain this time . I must add that I think the reason for this is because I and my partner had been desperately praying to God about it. We knew it would fall on the day I did my Maths exam and so resorted to asking the 'powers that be' to help ease the pain. We didn't think it would turn out this great, but it did!! Perhaps I should just do this every month? hahahaWell, that is my theory anyway, given that I did not actually change anything too much. I will indeed eat more egg yolks prior to my next period (and maybe not pray...just to see which is really working? ).Thanks. I'll keep you posted. ![]() |
