AuthorTopic: clear skin, but respiratory allergies

I've been posting off and on, but never really introduced myself. I just wanted to share my experiences on this diet so far, and get any feedback/suggestions/recommendations.

I have been on this diet since late September and I am really happy with the results so far. My skin is almost perfect now that I only wash it with water. Also, I've gone from 150 to 135 lbs (I'm 5'5 1/2 and medium boned and athletic build).

In a typical day, I eat the following: 1 banana, handful of almonds/hazelnuts/brazil nuts, fruit all day long, 1 basket of berries with very little plain yogurt, and then three small meals of either tomato/olive oil salad with 1 piece of bread or 1 whole california avocado with 1 piece of bread and cucumber. I don't limit myself to these things, this is just what ended up being what makes me feel satisfied. I admit that I don't have the egg yolks everyday. Maybe only a couple times a week... Maybe I should be better about this?

But here are my main concerns right now, and maybe somebody could help me with these:

1) ALLERGIES-I have the WORST respiratory allergies, always have, but they have not seemed to improve like everything else has. [Confused] I get SO MUCH Vit C, I eat about 5 tangelos or tangerines or oranges a day and I also drink effervescent Vit C with Cal/Mag (though I don't know how Wai feels about that?) I wake up every morning with post-nasal drip and complete congestion and I need to make tea to fully "declog" my system and get the breathing passages free again. [Frown] I've been considering getting allergy shots...but I don't know. Somebody help...

2) BLACK BAGS UNDER EYES-This is probably related to 1), but it bothers me so much I thought I'd put it separate. Could somebody please tell me WHAT DO THESE MEAN? I have always had them, and they are so ugly. I get 6-8 hours of sleep a night but I still look like the bride of Frankenstein. And people think I am either really stressed out or not sleeping at all.

3) I know there are more things, but it is late and I've written enough, so I'll just list those other things later...

Again, I am so happy wiht the results of this diet, and I thank you Wai for putting up all of this information and dedicating so much of your time to helping people! It is so refreshing to find a site that is run by an individual who is motivated not by money but instead by the pursuit of knowledge, truth and the well-being of other human beings. Thanks Wai!

I have the WORST respiratory allergies

All dairy products and wheat products suppress respiratory functioning.
I would advice you to not eat any yogurt and bread whatsoever for a while (about a month) and see what happens...

Your body does NOT lack vitamin C or calcium / magnesium when you don't take this supplement.
Too much is NOT good;
Taking the extra vitamin C is a bad idea:

quote:
from this page
Like vitamin K, vitamin C can be pro-oxidative and kill healthy cells. (17) Too much vitamin C decreases vitamin B12 level (18) and increases activation of mutagenic HCA from food. (19) Vitamin C can enhance tumors (20), and increases oxidative free iron level. (21)

and, regarding the increased iron level:

Too much of metals like iron, copper, cobalt, manganese and zinc is pro-oxidative (1), damaging nutrients, arteries (2) messenger-substances, cell-DNA (3) and enzymes (4), increases hart attack risk, and can cause diabetes (5), colon cancer (6) Parkinson's disease (7) and infertility. (8)

Taking extra calcium / magnesium is a very bad idea too.

First eliminate the excesses, then we'll see again...

yes, you better eat them daily, in order to maintain your muscle mass better, and also because they are VERY nutritional.

Although they are probably not as severe, I get respitory allergies as well. Try warm (not hot) water in the morning with some lemon and honey. Eliminating dairy, wheat, tea and all nuts except the occational brazil nut also helped. I gave up tea only because I thought the pesticides in the dryed herb might be bugging me. Also, once I noticed how much less mucus my body was producing, giving up dairy and wheat was very easy.

In my family we have multiple food allergies. I and my teenage son have an allergy to eggs (including egg-containing mayonnaise which he didn't consider!). He had itching, severe post nasal drip, and stuffiness. Also, headache, and trouble sleeping, which ended when we figured out it was the mayo, which I didn't know he was eating. We have not learned whether we are allergic to the white or the yolk or both. Plus, we had to give up all dairy products due to stomach/intestinal distress and sinus congestion. I haven't had a migraine headache since. I have been mostly applying Wai's guidelines for more than a year and have been extremely happy, but we can't eat the eggs.

Also, l-methionine helps with allergies, so you can try supplementing with it.

"There is a tendency for allergic (high histamine) persons to be methionine deficient. They may respond favorably to methionine, because it lowers blood histamine levels."

JeanOfHorses,

have you tried fresh RAW egg yolk?
so far, all people that were allergic for eggs, appeared not to be allergic for fresh RAW egg yolks...

I noticed after posting my message that this was mentioned elsewhere. Honestly, the reaction I have had with cooked eggs is so distressing that I have been afraid to try raw yolks regularly. I intend to do that the next time I buy free-range chicken eggs. I will let you know how it goes!

Thanks!
