| Vanessa 08-03-2002 07:09 PM | Hi everyone, I`ve been on this diet for about 2 months now but there`s one thing I still can`t understand. In the morning, after eating the fruits and the salad (tomatoes, cucumber, olive oil and lots of lime juice), I get this weird pain in my chest that extends to my shoulders and upper back. It feels like there`s something trying to pull down all my organs away. Although it doesn`t last too long, it`s so damn painful that it does feel like forever. Instead of eating the fruits, I decided to juice them now (which is good because I get more fruits this way without feeling awefully full), thinking the pains would go away but I still get them every morning. Has anyone else experienced that or is it just me? Wai, do you have some explanation for that? Is it just a digestion problem or my body detoxing or perhaps my body not being able to handle too much fruits first thing in the morning? I also would like to know if red wine vinegar is ok? And where could find olives that`s not been preserved with salt? I`ve been looking everywhere and they all have salt. Is it ok to just rinse them or soak them in water? Thanks |
| justmarvin 08-04-2002 12:53 AM | Wow. You've really been on this diet for two months -- strictly following the rules? Get a cheeseburger!!! Hehe just kidding. I have concerns about staying on a high-fruit diet for a long period. Although, I don't feel it's appropriate to post it in this thread; Perhaps I'll start a new one later on. I am interested in hearing your progress! I hope we all could find the cause of the chest pain. Here's to good health! Marvin |
| Wai 08-04-2002 02:41 PM | quote:Are you doing the diet for acne? How is your skin? quote:It may be an overeaction of digestive enzymes, to the lime juice for example. You need to find out what food exactly causes it. For the next few days you should start consuming only the juice in the morning, so no salad. If the pains remain, you need to eat only salad in the morning. quote:It is not about detoxification. the pain is a warning signal; that your body is not happy with a specific food. What if you only drink orange juice in the morning, and eat some bananas for example? PLEASE keep us all updated here about how you are doing, okay? quote:Is it vinegar originating from red wine, or is it red wine mixed with vinegar? Vinegar is totally okay. Red wine is only a very little bit 'not-okay' quote: Sorry, but I don't know; I haven't had the time to search for them yet... If you find them, please let us all know. quote:No, that doesn't help; they have been salt-cured, which means that the extra salt is everywhere inside the olive now. |
| Vanessa 08-04-2002 05:39 PM | quote:Hey justmarvin, this is not just a temporary diet, it`s the way you`re supposed to eat for the rest of your life if you want your acne gone forever. If you go back to the way you used to eat before, the acne will come back. BTW, did you read Wai`s book? Everything is so well explained in there. quote:I didn`t think I`d be able to do it first because I used to hate fruits (maybe had a banana once a week or something). Plus, there was the hungry factor at the beginning that was really hard to deal with but once you get used to eating fresh food, your body adapts eventually. Trust ME! quote:Thanks for the concern, I`ll wait another few more weeks to see how my progress goes and I promise to post my personal testimony. |
| Vanessa 08-05-2002 04:18 PM | quote:Hi Wai, Thank you so much for answering so quickly. I actually found your website while looking for a solution to my cellulite problem. And then, BONUS!!! I had acne too! Believe it or not, I was JUST about to go back to my dermatologist for another prescription 'cause my acne was coming back again, and with a VENGEANCE this time! So your diet was a double motivation for me. Now, my skin is getting better and better everyday (considering I had been cheating a few times - hey! hey now! no judgments please... I'm just being honest here), it's definitely softer and I don't need to put anything on it. I've never had any doubts about the effectiveness of this diet even before starting it anyway. I mean, IT JUST MAKES SENSE and now it's being confirmed everytime I look at myself in the mirror. Oh! and by the way, thank you Wai for helping me find out the source of my depression (from your book). There are so much more benefits from this diet than just acne and cellulite. I can't wait to tell you about them soon. quote:Ok, so I've had only fruit juice this morning with some avocado (for the fat) and the pain was still there. It was pretty minimal and didn't last long but it was still there. I'll continue experimenting over the next few days and will keep you posted on the results. quote:The wine vinegar is the one you buy at the grocery store (next to all the other kinds of vinegar) so I think it's originating from red wine. The ingredients are wine vinegar and sulphur dioxide (5% acetic acid / vol.). My friend actually makes hers by just letting an old unused red wine age by itself. quote:So until I can find no salt-cured ones, I guess I'll have to end my torrid love affair with olives then. Buh-bye yummy tasty olives... it was nice while it lasted but I guess it's time for the both of us to move on now. Wai, is it different for each person or is the forehead possibly the last part of the face to clear up? |
| justmarvin 08-06-2002 07:29 AM | quote:If I did that, I'ld loose alot of weight -- muscle mass included! The following advice was given which I think is a great one to follow: "Do not get too caught up in being perfect or following all the 'rules', but be more concerned with understanding the principles behind the rules, and adjust the program for your unique situation." quote:Yeah, we all hate when that happens! Grr...acne. I am glad you have had some success with fighting your acne! quote:In the past, I have read all her articles on her page several times and was quite impressed! I have her book downloaded and had quickly went through it; I shall give it a more thourough read when time permits. The ebook that I have read, AND recommend anyone read (even Wai!) is Acne Miracle. It is a wonderful read in conjunction to wai's book. If you are interested in taking a look, the address is http://acnemiracle.anthill.com. quote:I am glad you have gotten to like fruits My concern isn't the challenge of staying on such a diet, but the possible side effects of staying on such a diet long term (candida overgrowth for example). The diet is great innitially as it helps the body detoxify! In my oppinion, the effects of detoxification can be a possibility of the cause of your chest pain. It is said when your body cleanses that you will get worse before you get better. This might be breaking the rules a lil, but you can slow down the healing "crisis" by adding something cooked like a baked potatoe or lightly steamed veggies. Oh, and the oil that you are using is cold pressed, right? (I would never buy any oils from the grocery store! Even if it says "cold pressed extra virgin") quote:I wish you the best! And I hope both you and wai give Acne Miracle a read. Take care! Marvin "Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who [bold]healeth[/bold] all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving- kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's." King David - Psalms 103:1-5. |
| Wai 08-06-2002 01:14 PM | quote:Your friend's is less safe I guess, because not all protein will have been fermented quote:Yes. My boyfriend's last part of the face to clear up, is his chin. |
| Wai 08-06-2002 01:22 PM | quote:I started a new thread about this subject quote:No, please. You need to find the cause of the pain. Raw vegans that don't do well on their diet very often use this excuse of 'detoxification' because they are unable to explain the causes of difficulties and problems they are experiencing. I copied some of our posts here to a new thread about 'detoxification'. The chest pain may also be due to that the body needs to adapt to the high level of amines in fruits. It takes a bit time, but then the body produces more enzymes to degrade these mono amines. But first, the experiments will probably tell what the cause is. |
| Vanessa 08-08-2002 04:19 PM | quote:Thanks Marvin, how's your skin doing by the way? quote:Of course it is!!! quote:Where else could I buy it from? Am I supposed to make it myself ??? Wai, any comments? |
| Wai 08-09-2002 06:46 AM | quote: quote:I answered your questions in this new thread. |

| Vanessa 08-13-2002 10:06 PM | Hi guys, I'm back with some results. So I've tried having dried fruits, and of course no pain but it's not a very satisfying "breakfast" so that option will be for the mornings I don't have time to eat or prepare anything. I've tried having just the salad (with a banana) but that too wasn't satisfying enough and not the first thing my body desires in the morning. I didn't get the pain but I didn't feel it gave me a lot of energy probably because of the lack of sugar. Fruit juice still gives me pain. Today, I ate some whole un-juiced fruits in a small quantities (cantaloup, yellow plum, coconut) followed by a cucumber salad with olive oil, white vinegar, lime juice and garlic and I was fine. So I guess it's the quantity of fruits I take in the morning that's making the difference. Now I make my big fruit juice later at night and I feel ok. So there you go! BTW Wai, what should I use to cook my french fries in? Olive oil, butter... is canola oil ok? Thanks |
| Wai 08-14-2002 12:35 PM | I'm glad to hear that the chest pains are under control.quote:I don't think that french fries in olive oil tastes good. Butter cannot be used, so you just need a 'neutral-tasting' oil. I don't think canola oil is a good oil though... check out this site. |
| rospy007 12-05-2002 10:00 AM | what about safflower oil from a health food store if you get it cold pressed? Thanks Emily |
| RRM 12-06-2002 07:00 AM | Safflower oil contains a too high percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids: 75% of the oil is linoleic acid (check out the USDA Nutrient Database), which likely impairs the balance of saturated - unsaturated fats in your diet. |
