| Wintran 04-24-2003 07:38 PM | When I press oranges myself, I only get 3 dl juice from 5 oranges (about 1 kg) when I do not include the flesh. If I include the flesh I get about 5 dl juice. Is it only the liquid that contains energy, or should I also include the flesh from the oranges? - Hannes |
| Wai 04-25-2003 05:01 AM | Hi Han, how much juice you get from the oranges, highly depends on tha variety; some oranges contain twice as much juice and twice as little pulp (flesh) as others, so, make sure to get the right ones (try them before buying the wole box) quote:no, but that is not a decisive criterium; even grass, leaves and branches from a tree contains energy (and vitamins and minerals), but that doesn't mean you should consume these. The question is: what can be consumed BEST? (when starving you have no choice, but we are in a position that we have a choice) In comparison, the juice is most nutritional, and is easiest to digest, and thus it is better to drink more juice instead of consuming the flesh... |
| Hannes 04-25-2003 12:14 PM | Hi again! Ah, I see. But does that mean that if I have difficulties getting enough juice from my oranges, I could ingest some of the flesh as well, to get more energy out of them? This is mainly if I have little time or money, as I guess the best solution would be to simply buy more oranges. I will try some different types of oranges though, and see if I can find those that give me the most juice. By the way, are the recommended daily amounts of 3-4 liters orange juice based on the juice only without the flesh? - Hannes |
| Wai 05-02-2003 08:00 AM | quote:no, the other way around: if you have difficulty getting enough energy from whole oranges, or juice + flesh, then you need to exclude the flesh, so you can take up energy most efficiently quote:these are not the recommended daily amount, but MAY be the right amounts, depending on your energy expenditure and the rest of your diet but, yes, we are talking about the juice without the flesh |
