| risrosen 03-04-2003 07:35 PM | I had some oranges and pineapple with a dressing of olive oil and soy sauce (which makes it a munch food, I know). Part way through eating it began to sting my tongue, and by the end my tongue was really stinging. I looked at it in the mirror and it was very red, bumpy, and had a few lesions or cuts, one of which was bleeding a little. Do you have any idea why this reaction? |
| siroon 03-04-2003 10:08 PM | I got a similar reaction from just eating a lot of raw pineapple. Do you usually eat pinapple without this problem, Rickrack? |
| risrosen 03-05-2003 11:19 AM | That was the first time on this diet I'd eaten pineapple, though I'd juiced it several times, and before that I'd rarely eaten it. |
| Wai 03-07-2003 01:17 PM | quote:that is because of the protein-decomposing enzymes in unripe pineapple when you eat pineapple, make sure that it is TOTALLY ripe everywhere (preferably over-ripe) |
| Sanna 03-07-2003 04:42 PM | I had this too, I thought the pineapple was ripe enough but all of a sudden my lips were bleeding. I have had this with passion fruit as well, I think. Any other such fruits? Should all the fruits we eat be almost overripe? How important is it? And what problems can there be with eating less ripe fruits? It's hard to find ripe fruits...well, of course I can leave them on the table to ripen...what is the fastest way to make unripe fruits ripen at home? |
| Ian 03-07-2003 08:19 PM | I've heard the key is bananas: they give off a chemical that accelerates ripening. Just leave the fruit in a bag with a few bananas for while. This is, however, completely unverified rumor. It shouldn't be too hard to test it experimentally - I'll do that next time I've got some extra fruit around. Cheers, Ian |
| Wai 03-12-2003 01:53 PM | quote:yes, passionfruit is a 'difficult' fruit as well quote:yes quote:you shouldn't you should let the fruits ripen naturally, and completely quote:it is not just a rumour; it is true that the gasses liberated fromn the bananas will enforce ripeneing of the other fruit, BUT this ripening is incomplete (enforced), and therefore insufficient to create completely ripened fruit |
