its true we dont tend to crave fruits or overeat on them, especially if you eat fat afterwards...but i think theres one exception! DURIAN! i bought a fresh(100 percent sure it wasnt frozen), and i swear i could have eaten the whole thing in one sitting because they seem as addictive as cooked food. [Confused] (scary) i mean, i never can do that with any other fruit....do you know why that is? thanks!!

I had a non-frozen durian last week. It was very good, and VERY expensive. I think I will make this a special treat for major holidays and my birthday.

I notice that I can't eat so much durian. Its extremely rich and filling. I actually got sick from eating too much frozen durian. After having a fresh one, I won't ever go back to frozen. One reason you might crave it is that durian contains a lot of calories, and of course it tastes so good!

Hello fellow frens...well I can certainly attest to the powerful addiction of durians! I live in Singapore, and we have an abundance supply of this tropical fruit! HOwever be warned...it's known to be a very 'heaty' sort of fruits...I have friends who ended up with nose bleeds! For myself, I can get sore-throat and I believe it has contributed to some pimples!

I have a question for Wai though....is durians safe to eat as part of the diet? In fact over here our culture is to drink some salt water after feasting on durians to counteract its heatiness....

Thank you!

Heatiness? I am not sure what you are attempting to describe. I haven't eaten it often enough to know what you are talking about.

I have heard that one is supposed to abstain from alcohol while eating durian. Is this necessary? What will happen if you have alcohol at the same time? I don't drink much, so maybe its a non-issue. But when I share with friends, they seem to scoff at the idea and drink anyways.

Mm....I don;t suppose you all would have eaten enough of the fruits to be concerned about hetainess......over here we can polish off 5 between 2 persons in one setting...

It's a Chinese way - as in not to mix liquor with durians, as combination of both are considered to be too 'heaty' and 'strong' and some poeple with weak constitution may not take it well.

Well Durians ...they are green in color outside and their outer hard shell are full of spikes. The fruits are usually yellow in colour.....very strong smell......delicious for me but for some, they find it pungent! You can just do a search in yahoo or google to get a pic of it and find out more.......in Asia, we call them the King of fruits!

so, what is wrong with feeling like wanting to eat that whole durian in one sitting?
There is nothing wrong with that
there is also nothing wrong with actually eating it
how big was it? (weight?)

What your body is experiencing, is something very healthy, that is different from your normal diet, and thus very welcome. Your body loves the variation in diet.
Its reaction wount be the same once you eat them every day

Please enjoy them!!!

Durian contains about 140 calories / 100 gram
4 3/4 pounds is about 2150 gram, containing about 3,000 calories
so, eating such a big fruit in one sitting would be quite a performance!

but, my advice remains the same, please enjoy them, without any consideration to the calories
consuming natural raw foods, your body will end up at your natural setpoint weight anyway
