Hi!!! I must say being a biochemist student myself I am most impressed w/Wai's diet and knowledge! I have always eaten healthy and always consumed fruits but lately I've gotten a bit lazy and my skin shows it! [Roll Eyes] I was wondering if anyone has heard of and knows if the product called "Stretch Island Organic Fruit Leather Strips" are allowed. They are made of only natural fruit and are like a fruit roll-up for healthy eaters!!! This is a wonderful site, keep it up everyone!!! [Big Grin] Marie

hi Marie,

interesting that you are a biochemistry student
are you planning any experiments regarding diet and health in the future of your study / career?

the essence is its production process
is any heat involved in the making of this product?

Hi Wai!!! Here is what i got from the company's website: METHOD OF PRODUCTION: Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather is simply dried fruit in a bar. Our products are made from pure food ingredients with no sweeteners, colors, extenders, or preservatives.

Our principal raw material is fruit puree, which is prepared by washing the ripe fruit, heating if necessary to soften it, homogenizing it and then screening out seeds and stems. All of our ingredients have been heat treated to kill harmful bacteria. The fruit is usually concentrated to a standard Brix (fruit sugar) value and either heat-packed or frozen.

In addition to puree, we use small amounts of lemon juice concentrate and sometimes natural flavors.

The final manufacturing process involves mixing the ingredients, spreading on trays, and drying overnight in sealed cabinet dryers at low temperature. This slow drying helps preserve the color, flavor, aroma and nutritional value of the fruit our customers have come to enjoy over the years.

With that said, I would predict your answer to me is going to be "no"! [Razz] About biochemistry, yes I love to figure out the cause and effects of things, then figure out solutions. From studying people around me and their nutritional habits as well as doing quite a bit of reading on my own I have come to find that SOOOO many of the problems in our society is diet and w/simple changes and knowledge people's overall state-of-being could be dramatically improved. (ahh, the possibilities!) The problem I find is getting people motivated to want to know and change-and you are doing a wonderful job at just that [Big Grin] - my interest is stongest in the mind (neurobio),and only being 20 I am thrilled to be at the level I am b/c w/everything I learn and discover I want to take that and better every life I can, like you are doing, so way to go Wai [Wink] you are blessed w/an amazing mind and are doing GREAT things w/it!!!! Thank you, Marie
