| lyn 11-25-2002 09:00 AM | I seem to have lost my appetite for fruit as of late. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the colder weather settling in. I know that with the warmer weather i craved it alot and now i seem to have to force myself to eat it or drink the o.j....I'm struggling again with not consuming enough...i seem to do well for a while then i sart to lose the weight again... gotta keep going though...this board is definately a source of encouragement though...it helps me to know others are dealing with the same types of things! ![]() |
| Scott 11-25-2002 09:17 AM | Lyn, I'm going through precisely the same thing. I was just expressing my concern to someone last night. Fruit lately doesn't appeal to me at all... so I'm basically wasting away. (It doesn't help that so little of the fruit seems to be fresh... and I can't find a halfway decent avacado anywhere.) Anyhow, you are not alone. ![]() |
| RRM 11-25-2002 01:48 PM | Same here; I don't feel like eating much whole fruits, except for some bananas and avocadoes (and mangoes!). That is why I drink mostly juices, with sugar and oil added, so that I ingest enough energy anyway. I even prefer to squeeze the mangoes too, and drink the juice only The fresh raw animal food still feels great, right? |
| bwarijolivette 11-25-2002 02:38 PM | I am surprised that you add sugar, as I thought that was a dietary no no Or are you refering to a sugar substitute? |
| Scott 11-25-2002 09:37 PM | RRM, how much sugar and oil do you add per liter? |
| lyn 11-26-2002 10:53 AM | RRM, am i right in thinking that you mainly drink juices for your "FOOD"?... I'll increase my intake of them... and yes I still enjoy the yolks and sashimi! Thank you! Scott, I know what your saying about the avacados!...they can look good from the outside and then when you cut them open they're nasty...I don't know what you have for health food stores in your area but living in Boston, we have Bread-n-Circus...I pay 1.98/avacado there ...if i buy them at the regular grocery they are .99 but stringy with hard brown spots!yum!...anyway, I hope you can find some decent ones somewhere. We gotta gain some weight, eh? |
| RRM 11-27-2002 01:15 PM | quote:Why is it a dietary no no? Sucrose is a natural sugar (fructose + glucose), abundantly present in well ripened fruits. The brain alone needs 125 to 150 gram pure glucose daily, and of course the muscles need lots of glucose. |
| RRM 11-27-2002 01:27 PM | Scott, I add about 100 to 150 gram sugar (3.5 to 5 oz) and 50 gram oil (1 tbsp = 13.5 gram) to every 1.5 liter, and drink about 4 liters a day. (I'm physically very active all day) Lyn, yes, I mainly drink OJ for food. Nothing wrong with that; submit this new version of Wai's diet to the nutrient calculator, so that you are sure you ingest all essential nutrients. |
| karen 11-27-2002 09:08 PM | Drinking mainly o.j. sounds wonderful to me, but I still donīt understand why you add sugar to juice; is it because it doesnīt contain enough on its own? Is consuming only o.j. plus fat and sugar enough energy? What about the esential noutrients? Maybe I got it wrong, didnīt the book say to chose a wholesome variety of fruits? Just curious Karen |
| RRM 11-28-2002 10:08 AM | Karen, quote:It is because I need A LOT of energy, since I'm physically very active all day. Consuming about 4 to 4.5 litres OJ a day, I also ingest the in total added 150 gram oil (1200 kcal) and 400 gram sugar (1600 kcal), which is 2800 kcal extra. If I wouldn't add the oil and sugar, I would have to drink (1 liter Oj = 470 kcal) 6 liters of juices ON TOP of the 4 liters that I already drink (10 liters in total), and that is even too much for me If I had to ingest all that energy by eating whole fruits, that would be impossible. quote:I don't understand this question; pure fat and sugar contain the maximum amounts of energy. and as you can see, solely the oil and sugar already provide me with 2800 kcal. can you please elaborate? quote:submit the following to the nutrient calculator: 4500 ml OJ, 100 gram salmon, 3 egg yolks, 150 gram olive oil, 3 bananas and 2 avocadoes, and you will see that it supplies me with all essential nutrients. quote:Yes, that is the best you can do, but, ingesting enough energy is our FIRST priority. |
| Scott 11-29-2002 08:56 AM | Hi Lyn,quote:Thank you! I hope so, too. I'm in Central NJ and, like you, I pay about $2.00/avacado. We need to follow Wai's lead and return the bad ones! quote:YES!!! ![]() |
| Scott 11-29-2002 09:03 AM | RRM,quote:Wow! I figure that's about 4-5 tbsps of sugar per liter. (Granulated, right?) Oh man, that is a lot of sugar. I guess if the bitterness doesn't make me gag, the sweetness will. ![]() |
| karen 11-29-2002 10:00 AM | I am so releived!! I didnīt know o.j. had so many valuable noutrients. And you donīt have to have tons of other fruit daily if you donīt care for it, right? Here in México you can get oranges on every corner; even juice. So then why bother thaking all those figs and nuts with me every day, maybe a little bottle of olive oil in my handbag will do the trick. Thankīs for the info. PS. what about mandarines? In december you can get them everywhere, and the juice is lovely. Karen |
| RRM 11-30-2002 12:37 PM | Scott, quote:Yes, I would too, if my body wouldn't need the energy. If I drink it when I don't need it, it's awful, but when my blood energy goes down, and I drink it, my body really gratefully absorbs it. So, I guess it is really about what your body needs. Karen, quote:Exactly. Just make sure to subject your diet to the nutrient calculator. quote:The funny thing is that, regarding some nutrients, mandarins (10 fold higher in carotenoids) have quite a different nutrient composition than oranges (5 to 6 fold higher in B6, B9). They are complementary to oranges. The nutrient calculator does not contain mandarin juice, but you can simply compare oranges with mandarins. 1 kg oranges: Vitamin B1...0.79 mg Vitamin B2...0.42 mg Vitamin B3...3.00 mg Vitamin B5...2.40 mg Vitamin B6...1.04 mg Vitamin B9...420 mcg Vitamin A....110 mcg carotenoids..876 mcg Vitamin E....3.20 mg 1 kg mandarins: Vitamin B1...0.60 mg Vitamin B2...0.30 mg Vitamin B3...2.00 mg Vitamin B5...2.00 mg Vitamin B6...0.23 mg Vitamin B9...70 mcg Vitamin A....920 mcg carotenoids..8141 mcg Vitamin E....3.20 mg |
