| ninesky 03-28-2003 03:09 PM | Hi Wai, I was wondering what would be the best to eat during a very long hike. One of my favorite activities is arriving at a mountain around 8AM and hiking and mountain climbing until about 5PM or 6PM.. occasionally taking short 5-10 minute breaks. What would be the best to consume for a day like this.. before and during? It seems like it'd be ok to eat an avocado and two oranges in the morning, prepare the orange juice/oil/sugar drink and a few liters of water for the day, and have about 5 egg yolks when I arrive home. Would this be ok? Also would you have any recommendations for the amount of the juice/oil/sugar drink to bring? I am about 190lbs and 6'3''. Thanks. ![]() |
| Wai 04-03-2003 11:37 AM | quote:"before": it is best to 'stack your glycogen depots', which means that you should 'overeat' from 10 to 3 hours before you actually start your activities Bananas are great to be eaten in this time period (an avocado is perfect as well) after the 'stacking has completed', you only need to keep your blood sugar level stabilized (in these last 3 hours you consume the 'food' as described in "during") "during": you should see regard your requirements in such conditions as comparable to those of professional athletes such as bicyclists and triathlon athletes in such conditions you need 'food' that requires as little digestive activities as possible, and that can supply you with as much energy as possible Actually, you dont even need to drink water; drinking the juice is all you need since it contains all the water you need make sure to drink enough juice of course "Afterwards": then you should replenish the loss of protein (by consuming the egg yolks or fish), and also the glycogen depots (carbs) quote:ah, well, your body and energy requirements are very much comparable to those of my partner, RRM check out this thread regarding this issue (how much juice, calories, added sugar, oil) |
| ninesky 04-03-2003 01:21 PM | Thanks for your reply. What would you reccomend in terms of the food that requires the least digestion? I'm not sure if we agreed on the orange juice/olive oil/sugar for that. |
| Wai 04-03-2003 01:32 PM | the less fiber, the more easy it is to digest (given the fact that it is raw natural food) the ('enriched') juice (since it is extracted, not blended), is very low in fiber; perfect |
