| rawbebe 02-11-2003 12:30 PM | i have consumed salt and it now has a TERRIBLE affect on my face. my skin has become tight, red, itchy, and there are several large bumps under the skin. i want to expel this salt from my system as soon as possible, i know that the best way to do this is to take a couple of days to go on a water fast and drink large amounts of water just to get the salt out... ..and then i would go back on the sample diet. my impression is that it would get rid of the salt faster because my body wouldn't working any on digestion and i could push the salt out... whereas if i were still eating too, i know that a lot of water in the stomach dillutes stomach fluids and inhibits digestion. any thoughts? |
| Wai 02-12-2003 02:32 PM | rawbebe, such a waterfast MAY have adverse (or acne prolonging) effects , because you will, during this fast, ingest too little energy, which leads to the conversion of muscle protein into available energy. But, this comes with phases of containing much little pieces of protein instead of what used to be intact, whole proteins. and all these small proteins make you retain more water than the whole proteins could. The best way to eliminate the water retention, is by following the acne sample diet... |
| mengyao 02-18-2003 06:15 PM | although im not too sure of fasting, i heard that the body will only use protein as a last result, which happens in people who are starving to death. The body first preference of energy comes from sugars and fats. protein is always its last resort. the body will prevent you from using up ur own body proteins during a fast, by signaling a "true hunger", which indicates when u have fasted to the limit. maybe this isnt true, but i read this on an article about fasting. |
| engesongwok 02-19-2003 12:57 PM | Hello, From what I understand ... the body will use protein from dead cells, and energy from stored fat. I understand that some people may experience severe acne in water fasts lasting more than a few days. After a few more days it is supposed to clear up. There is some caution about extended fasting, that you really need supervision if done more than a few days. Ideally everyone should consult a physican for their first fast. |
| Wai 02-19-2003 01:31 PM | Yuna, quote:Unfortunately, that is not true. IF it would be true, it would be very easy to lose all your overweight without losing muscle volume, which is not the case (any bodybuilder can tell you this). Actually, all people who have studied biochemistry, know that the body very easily uses protein for energy, and depending on whether your blood sugar- or your blood fatty acid level is low, your body converts specific amino acids (protein) in either glucose or fat... What is true about what you heard, is that your body will only use VITAL protein for energy as a last resort, but most muscle tissue is not considered vital... | Wai 02-19-2003 01:46 PM | Engesongwok, quote:yes, from these sources too The energy from your fat stores is less frequently used because your body is much more subject to blood glucose fluctuations than to blood fatty acid fluctuations, and it is these fluctuations that determine the utilization of stored energy... So, the main source of energy will be those containing energy that can be converted into sugar-like molecules (such as protein and stored sugars), and since the amount of protein from dead cells will not increase, the EXTRA required energy (to make up for the loss of ingested energy) comes from muscle protein... | Sanna 02-19-2003 03:00 PM | sooo...if the blood fatty acid level is low but the sugar level is fine, the body will utilize the fat stored in it's own fat deposits? or what.. |
| Wai 02-19-2003 04:07 PM | quote:i meant to say that when the blood fatty acid level is low, but the sugar level is fine, then more protein will be converted into fat instead of sugar... Consuming too little fat (if you want to decrease the blood fatty acid level) increases cravings for 'bad' foods ... |
| Sanna 02-19-2003 06:11 PM | yeah.ok, that's what I thought. I misunderstood that one sentence. and yes, I get really intense cravings (for bad stuff) even after one time of eating sugars without any fat. I've been wondering if anybody else experiences this, is it individually different? |
| Wai 02-20-2003 01:05 PM | yes, to what extend this occurs is individually different |
