| jterban 11-19-2002 09:05 PM | Hello. I'm new to the board. I have been troubled with breakouts on my chin and forehead especially and am going crazy trying to figure out what the problem is. I've just recently started reading up on how diet plays a major factor (although most dermatologists totally deny this). Anyways, I tend to eat a fair amount of salsa. Could this be triggering the chin breakouts? I don't eat any dairy, wheat, carbs, fried food....the list goes out...so now I'm trying to figure out through process of elimination what I could be doing wrong. My diet is so limited anyways. I do drink diet soda...could this really be causing problems....and, how about protein bars, like Atkins or EAS bars? Any advice would be helpful as I am 30 years old and sick of fighting this acne. Thanks. |

I guess it's a sauce? quote:An elimination diet is NOT about eliminating possible culprits one by one, but by eliminating ALL possible culprits at once, during a certain period of time. (2 weeks) And then, after having cleared your skin, you can add 'bad foods' back into your diet, one by one. quote:Yes, buy you can only find out by maintaining the 100% strict diet first. Once your skin is totally clear, you can start experimenting with adding 'bad foods', such as sodas, back into your diet. quote:ABSOLUTELY. quote:If you start tomorrow, you will have your answers within a few weeks. (if you do the 100% strict diet right) |
| tsilentlucidity 01-11-2003 02:26 PM | Whoa!!! Stop right there. No, you absolutely may NOT drink diet soda anymore. It contains Aspartame. Aspartame has been proven (by the FDA no less; wonder why it's still even legal, eh?) to produce 92 known side effects. These range from weight gain, to Parkinson's Disease (did Michael J. Fox drink too much diet coke??), to DEATH. Let me say this again--DO NOT DRINK DIET SODA. Believe it or not, you'd be better off drinking the high fructose corn syrup found in regular sodas. Okay, enough of my soap-boxing (although such a word conjunction produces odd imagery of my pounding little bars of Dove--hahaha). But I haven't noticed it mentioned too much on this site, so I thought maybe it was time to speak out. So now you all have a head's up. For more info, a popular (and very, very heated) site is: www.aspartamekills.com hope that link works, just learned the UBB codes two minutes ago, but they are similar enough to HTML I suppose. I'm sure that Wai Genriiu has researched aspartame to at least some degree, and can probably tell you all more about it. Love to all; and |

| RRM 01-12-2003 02:57 PM | quote:Uh, since there has been quite some fuzz about aspartame in the past, we simply assumed that the harmful effects of Aspartame are already 'common knowledge'. Wai put only a very little side-note about it in her book: "Aspartame probably causes brain-tumors (171)". quote:There indeed is much more info about it on the net. |
| rawbebe 01-24-2003 03:09 AM | Concerning "salsa" in the diet... I know EXACTLY what you are talking about, and my reply is YES...salsa is and can be a very large culprit of acne. Reason being: salsa contains a lot of spices and salt. For ME, a 24 year old, my adult acne went from mild to almost severe after continuously consuming salsa. I craved salsa, especially late late at night (the worst time to eat it, but then Taco Bell is open at 2am and I would satisfy my nightly cravings then with Mexican food) Salt and spicy food have been the biggest aggrevators of my acne, with almost immediate breakouts to follow. I would suggest you completely eliminate all salt and spicy foods from your diet, and consume only raw foods. You may or may not break out from a combination of fresh tomatos, chives/ cilantro, onions - but I am certain that adding salt or hot peppers/ chiles will make you break out. Just wanted to let you know my experience since no one else seemed to understand what you meant by salsa. In my case, it is the combination of the two worst culprits. ![]() |
